Men's breakfast set for Sept. 17
The monthly Men's Breakfast
will resume after the summer
break this Sunday, Sept. 17, at
the First Christian Church in
Heppner. Breakfast will be
served at 8 a.m. followed by a
short Bible study.
All men and their sons are in­
vited. The purpose of this mon­
thly event is to provide male
friendship and encourage one
another in living Christian
biblical values and ethics, said
Duane Jones, pastor of the
Nazarene Church.
Thoughout the year, men
from several local churches par­
ticipate together to provide this
breakfast and fellowship. This
breakfast is tentatively planned
to be held at the Nazarene
Church, October 15, and Chris­
tian Life Center, November 19.

Hope-Valby Lutherans plan services
Valby Lutheran Church, on
the Ione-Gooseberry Road, will
celebrate Holy Communion
this Sunday, Sept. 17. Sunday
school will begin at 9 a.m. An
adult class will meet at 8:15
a.m. to discuss the proposed
ELCA document of worship
and com munion practices.

Fire Dept, to a vehicle fire on
1-84, Vz mile west of Boardman.

responded to a report of a fami­
ly disturbance at Wilson Trailer

responded to a disturbance in

St. Pat's to begin Catechism classes Sept. 15 deadline fo r special bird hunts
Catechetical classes for first
through eighth grades will
begin at St. Patrick Catholic
Church on Sunday, September
24. G asses will be held from
9:30-10:45 a.m. at the parish
hall each Sunday.
The teachers will be using the
Sadlier program which is "a n
exciting religious education cur­
riculum, using an engaging ap­
proach for making children's
faith come alive. Activities and
music will reinforce and con­
nect the children's faith to life,"
said a church spokesperson.

Arlington Church plans auction

Methodist Church will hold its
annual auction and barbecue
on Saturday, Sept. 16, at the
Arlington down town mall.
The bake sale will begin at 10
a.m ., with the auction, silent
auction, flea market, country
store and children's booth get-
ting underway at 10:30 a.m.
The barbecue lunch will begin
at noon.
Door prizes will be awarded
and an afghan raffle will be
held.
Auctioneers are Frank Bet­
tencourt of TriAd Auctioneers
and Terry Roberts.
Garden Club holds progressive dinner
The Heppner Garden Club
featured a progressive dinner
and tour of gardens at their
meeting Sept. 11.
The tour began at the St.
Patrick's Senior Center. The
group first visited the gardens
of Mary Goheen and Daisy
Collins for appetizers, the
Adlard landscaping and the
gardening projects of residents
of Pioneer Memorial Nursing
Home.
Other stops were the homes
of Bebe and Riley Munkers for
salad, Ida Farra, Janel Lacey
and Jane Rawlins for entrees
and Betsy Kaiser and Vonnie
Lovgren for dessert, where the
business meeting was held.
In terested non-m em bers
were invited to join the tour.
Waterfowl and upland bird
hunters should apply now for
the special reservation hunts
held at the McCormack Slough
Unit of the Umatilla National
Refuge (NWR) and the McKay
Creek NWR.
The Umatilla NWR is now ac­
cepting reservation applications
for the McCormack Unit Water-
fowl Hunt, located three miles
west of Irrigon. Applications
must be postmarked by Sept.
15 for the first hunt season
(Oct. 14-Nov. 30) on this unit.
Any waterfowl hunter who
would like to get an advance
reservation for this popular
hunt should obtain an applica­
tion from the Umatilla Refuges
Complex Headquarters, 8306th
St., P.O. Box 700, Umatilla,
97882, 922-3232.
Upland game bird hunters
may apply to hunt opening
weekend on the McCormack
Unit by sending a postcard
with their name, address and
day they wish to hunt, Satur­
day or Sunday, to Umatilla
Refuge Upland Hunt, at the
same P .O . box as above.
Selected hunters will be allow­
ed two permits. A $5 reserva­
tion fee wll be charged at the
unit on the day of the hunt.
Hunters wishing to apply for
permits to hunt waterfowl and
upland birds on opening day,
Oct. 14, at the McKay Creek
NWR outside Pendleton must
send a $2 application fee along
with their name, address, and
the name "M cKay Refuge" to
McKay Creek Refuge Hunt, at
the same P.O. box as above. If
selected, each hunter will
receive two permits for the
Saturday hunt. McKay Creek
NWR will not be open to hun­
ting on Sunday, Oct. 15.
Holly Rebekahs start fall meetings

ed and the group enjoyed a gift
exchange.
St. Patrick’s Senior Center
Bulletin Board
The seniors were saddened by the death of a very special lady,
Florence Holt, former tenant and office volunteer at the Senior
Center. The seniors' deepest sympathy is extended to the Holt
family.
There were 94 people present for the senior dinner Sept. 6.
One meal was home delivered. Members of the Baptist Church
served. Lynn Bibby and Elsie Huston were the hostesses. Marion
Brosnan won the free meal ticket and Loree Hubbard the bingo
ticket. There was hearing aid assistance given and blood pressures
taken before the meal.
The menu for Sept. 20 will be meatloaf and gravy, green beans,
whipped potatoes, whole wheat rolls, fruit and cookies. Members
of the Episcopal Church will serve.
Eighteen seniors and bus driver, Dot Halvorsen, enjoyed a steak
dinner at the Condon senior meal site and a guided tour of the
Summit Springs Senior Living Facility. It is beautiful and well-
staffed, said a spokesperson.
Lunch was held for the Holt family at the Center, following
the funeral services for Flo. Several seniors assisted.
Saturday afternoon, the senior bus, with about 12 on board,
and Ed Baker, the driver, went to Pendleton where the seniors
enjoyed dinner at the King's Table and the Dress-Up Parade at
the rodeo grounds.
Eight people watched the movie, "T h e Silver Stallion" Sun­
day evening.
Tim Cundell will sing and play at the Senior Center, Oct. 7,
from 6-8 p.m. for your listening and dancing pleasure. Put on
your dancing shoes, bring finger foods and join the fun.
Other dates to remember: Tuesday and Thursday exercise 10
a.m.; Wednesday blood pressure dinic 11 a.m., senior meal noon;
Friday cards 2 p.m .; Sunday movie 7 p.m. There will be knit­
ting, Oct. 3, from 7:30-9.

tion of a report of theft from a
residence in the lone area. A
chain saw, walkie talkie, crystal
decanter and goblets were
reported stolen;

began an investigation of an
animal problem in the Irrigon
area;
Morrow County Sheriff's of­
fice dispatched the Mitchell am­
bulance to Hwy 26 for a person
with chest pains. Patient was
airlifted to Bend;
M orrow C ounty deputy
responded to a suspicious vehi­
cle on 1-84 at mile post 165;
Morrow County Sheriff's of­
fice dispatched the Spray am­
bulance to Hwy 19. One male
was airlifted to Bend.
September 8: Morrow Coun­
ty deputy responded with the
Irrigon ambulance to a resi­
dence in Irrigon for a female
with an illness. No transport
was made;
Morrow County Sheriff's of­
fice dispatched the Heppner
ambulance to a residence on
Gale St. for a male with an in­
jury. Patient was transported to
Pioneer Memorial Hospital.
September 9: Morrow Coun­
ty Sheriff's office dispatched
the Fossil ambulance to Wright
Chevrolet in Fossil for a male
with an injury. Patient was
airlifted to Bend;
