Chuck Matteson wins calf roping saddle

Tiny Bertsch from Stanfield
was the winner of the All
Around Cowboy title and sad
dle this past weekend during
the Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo
held in conjunction with the
Morrow County Fair. A contes
tant must win the most money
in two events to claim the title.
Bertsch placed in calf roping
and team roping. The saddle,
made by Rich Boyer of Her-
miston, is donated by Gard
ner's Men's Wear in Heppner.
The Mike Currin Belt Buckle
was won by Ricky Canton of
Cleveland, Texas. This buckle
is donated by the Currin fami
ly in memory of Mike who was •
killed in an air plane accident.

Chuck Matteson of Heppner
was the winner of the Amateur
Calf Roping event at the Mor
row County Rodeo held Sun
day, Aug. 20. Matteson won
the saddle donated by Greg
Demers, owner of Kinzua
Resources, LLC. Lee An-
sotegui, Heppner, made the
hand tooled saddle. This event
is open to Morrow County
residents who have never won
the saddle before and is sought
after by many cowboys. Char
Coe, Heppner, was a repeat
winner in the Cow Riding con
test, as was Stefan Matheny in
the calf riding event.

Board, at their regular meeting
Aug. 14 at A.C. Houghton
Elementary School in Irrigon,
approved a proposal from
OPTEC, a Portland technology
firm.
The board approved a pro
posal from OPTEC for $15,800
for consulting and design for
phase I in a plan to implement
a computer network for 125 to
150 Morrow County classrooms
and administration.
Phase II, which will also be
completed by OPTEC, will in
volve inplementation of design,
wiring and set up. Phase II will
use state bidding system and
will employ various vendors.
