Letters to the Editor
Fire fueled with misinformation
To the Editor:
This letter is in response to
the letter you printed from Mr.
Hal Dinkins in last week's
paper regarding Home Rule in
Morrow County.
In Mr. Dinkins' letter, he
talked (at length) about leaving
government alone. What is
ironic to me is the fact that what
the'Home Rule Charter Com
mittee was designed (by
government) to do is exactly
what Mr. Dinkins has worked
against during the entire 18
month process. Mr. Dinkins
has accused the entire commit
tee (eight others) of having
secret agendas, or seeking
what's best for one end of the
county or the other. The self-
righteous Mr. Dinkins talks of
narrowing the "cleavage" bet
ween the north and south ends
of the county, and yet every
time he opens his mouth or
writes one of his editorials, he
fuels that same fire with his in
sults and misinformation.
The other eight members of
our committee have done
everything they can to be co
operative, congenial, and
receptive to others' ideas. Mr.
Dinkins, on the other hand,
will not listen to others' ideas.
He thinks his opinion is the on
ly possible opinion. He has
been disruptive, rude and un
cooperative.
Case in point, I have repeat
edly said to the public as we
went through the hearing pro
cess, our committee is not done
formulating what the final
charter should look like. After

all, the whole idea behind the
public hearings was to listen to
what the people had to say,
and to modify the proposed
charter accordingly.
The next meeting for our
committee will be held to do
just that. We will discuss what
we have heard from the public
for the past three months and
then discuss what changes to
the proposed charter need to
be. Mr. Dinkins, however, has
once again circumvented the
government process and run
off at the mouth before giving
government's due process a
chance to work.
If Mr. Dinkins had spent less
time telling the public what he
wanted and more time listen
ing to what they wanted, then
maybe he wouldn't be so afraid
to "let the process" work.
In conclusion, I would add
Mr. Dinkins repeatedly refer
red to the committee as "my
committee" (meaning his com
mittee). As chairman of the
Home Rule Committee, I sup
pose if anyone could choose to
call it "h is committee", it
would be me. I have chosen,
rather, throughout the past 18
months, to refer to it as our
committee, because with the
exception of one arrogant and
uncooperative person, it has
been a team of people I have
been very proud to work with.
Mr. Dinkins, let people be
heard, not you.
Sincerely,
(s) Rollie Marshall
Chairman, Morrow County
Home Rule Committee

students normally participate in

for them to expend their

The participation in these ac

Please help our Morrow
