Chamber
Chatter
By Claudia Hughes, Chamber Manager
We human beings are often
guilty of trying to control peo
ple and things and begin to
think we've succeded when all
of a sudden we're given a
needed reminder that some
things are beyond our control.
As experienced this week
end, in just a few minutes, a
storm can put many lives in
turmoil. Friends traveling back
to Seattle got caught in the
hailstorm in Hermiston. Thank
fully, they were safe, but their
recently refurbished Volks-
wagon Rabbit was the recipient
of many large dents. Other
than a yard full of debris, we
were okay; how about you?
The Main Street planters are
looking good, thanks to
Garden Qub members and the
faithful water haulers up and
down Main street. Stick your
head in a door and say thanks.
Heppner is certainly going to
miss Jon and Marcia DeBo and
their family. In two short years,
they became a very big part of
our community, serving on the
Chamber Board of Directors, ci
ty council, St. Patrick's Com
mittee, chamber treasurer, etc.
Losing these great volunteers
and friends will be Heppner's
loss and Silverton's gain. They
know how to ''bloom where
they're planted". The Chamber
wishes them will.
Chamber members will be
boarding a bus next week for
the annual "H O B O " tour
rather than the usual lunch at
the Elks. Members should meet
at the Chamber Office Tuesday,
July 18, at 9:45 a.m. The tour
will include Finley Buttes,
Capeco Housing, lunch at the
Boardman park and Coyote
Springs. Call 676-5536 and
leave a message to reserve a
spot and order your brown bag
lunch by Monday, July 17.
