Renne Lee Harris of
Portland, formerly of Heppner,
died May 20, 1995, in Porland
of AIDS-related complications.
Memorial services were held
Wednesday, May 24, at Saints
Peter and Paul Episcopal
Church, Portland.
Born April 26, 1941 in Hepp­
ner to Eileen and Renn Harris,
he grew up in Heppner and
graduated from Heppner High
School in 1959. He later
graduated from Willamette
University, DePauw Universi­
ty and Church Divinity School
of the Pacific.
He was employed as a
chemist for Rhone-Poulenc in
the late 1960s and was vicar of
Ascension Chapel in Portland
from 1972-78 and rector of
Saints Peter and Paul from
1978-83. Most recently he work­
ed as department head of en­
vironmental services for the
Portland Public Schools.
Survivors include sons,
Joseph of Klamath Falls and
Christopher of Portland,
daughter, Carolyn of Portland,
sister, Sheryl Kelly of Portland,
mother and stepfather Eileen
and Mike Saling of Heppner,
half-sisters, Patti Allstott and
Michele Hams of Heppner, and
two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by
his father, Renn.
The funeral for Ida Coleman
was Monday, June 22, at Hope
Lutheran Church in Heppner.
Concluding service and burial
followed at High View
Cemetery in lone.
Mrs. Coleman, 91, of Hepp­
ner, died Thursday, May 18,
1995, at Pioneer Memorial Nur­
sing Home in Heppner.
She was bom April 15, 1904,
at Abercrombie, ND, to An­
drew and Carrie Sandvig Hage.
She grew up at Fergus Falls,
MN, and attended school
there.
In 1922, she married Melvin
Gaarsland. Mr. Gaarsland died
in 1930.
In 1933, she married Albion
Coleman. They lived in M in­
nesota before coming to
Oregon in 1937. They lived in
the Salem area where she
worked at the woolen mills.
They moved to the lone area in
1939 where they farmed until
Mr. Coleman's death in 1942.
Mrs. Coleman set up the kit­
chen and was the first cook at
Pioneer Memorial Hospital
when it opened in 1950. She
also cooked at the Delbert
Emert ranch for several years,
and later cooked at the lone
schools until her retirement in
1980.
She was a member of Hope
Lutheran Church in Heppner,
the Rebekah Lodge, and the
Willows Grange in lone.
Survivors include daughters,
Jean Crawford of Portland,
Gwen Healy and Ann Scharz
of Heppner, and Sue Matthes
of Seattle; brother Ed Hage of
Wahpeton, ND; 18 grand­
children;

grandchildren, and four great-
great-grandchildren. A son and

Word has been received of
the death of Ethyl V. Furlong,
78, of Port Orchard, at the Har­
rison Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Furlong was born
December 4, 1916 at Monu­
ment, to Jack and Susie
Hughes. She graduated from
high school in Heppner.
She married Jim Furlong on
January 20, 1940, in Bremerton,
WA. She worked as a
homemaker.
Survivors include two
daughters, Suzan Carter of
Pullman, WA, and Michaela
Hughes of Spokane, WA; three
grandchildren, and one
great-grandchild.
No services were held.
Cremation arrangements were
under the direction of Rill
Chapel, Pendleton-Gilchrist
Funeral Home.

Saturday evening, another
dance will be held, with
another buckeroo breakfast
from midnight until noon.
Sunday morning, May 28, a
cowboy church service will be
held in the grandstands, begin­
Joie Kiser of Prineville will
reign as queen of the 48th an­
nual Spray Rodeo, May 27-28.
Kiser is a 17 year old student at
Crook County High School.
Rodeo festivities will begin
Friday evening, May 26, with
the first dance of the weekend
to be held in the high school
gym. Music will be provided by
Old Spice, from Redmond.
Following the Friday night
dance, a buckeroo breakfast,
sponsored by the Wheeler
County Fair Court, will be held
in the school cafeteria, from
midnight until noon.
Saturday morning, May 27,
the 30th annual Eastern
Oregon Half-Marathon will
begin at 8 a.m., at Service
Creek. The race will end in
Spray. T-shirts are available to
those who pay a higher entry
fee. Trophies will be awarded
in each category. Marathon
directors are Guy and Sue
Grater. For more information,
call 468-2821.
The parade will begin at 11:30
at the Spray General Store and
will end at the rodeo grounds.
The Grand Marshal is Grace
Younce of Spray. Ribbons will
be awarded in several
categories. Parade director is
Milne Wilson, 763-2719.
The rodeo begins at 1 p.m.,
with stock furnished by Craig
"B o " Pinz P9 Rodeo's, from
Parma, ID. Admission for the
rodeo is $7 for adults and $3 for
children under 12. Rodeo an­
nouncer is Wayne White of
Springfield, and clown and bull
fighter is Bob Hebison from
Winnemucca, NV.
Rodeo events include
bareback riding, calf roping,
breakaway roping, saddle
bronc riding, bull dogging,
wild cow milking, barrel racing,
bull riding, wild horse race,
kids' V« mile pony race, ladies'
V\ mile race, mens' Vi mile race,
and a % mile relay race. Joann
Griffith is rodeo secretary. For

The final rodeo performance
will begin at 1 p.m. Event win­
ners will be awarded trophies
in each event and a hand-
tooled breast collar, made by
Patrick's Saddlery in Mt. Ver­
non, will be awarded to the all-
around cowboy.

day of singing, Bible stories,
arts and crafts, and organized
recreation on Friday, May 26.
School will run from 9 a.m. to
3p.m. Children are expected to
bring their own lunches.
There will be no Friday
School on June 2 as school age
children will be in public
school.
A special closing event of the
1994-95 school year is planned
for Friday, June 9. Friday
School will be from 10 a.m. to
1 p.m.
The steering committee of
Dr. Jeanne Berretta, Vicki
Broden, Father A1 Miller and
Pastor Stan Hobbing urge all
persons who have helped with
the program during the year,
and the parents of children in­
volved to come from noon to 1
p.m. for recognition and the
closing ceremony. Those atten­
ding should bring their own
fees
