airmen at Museum
"The Tuskegee Airmen and
the Fight for Racial Equality
During the War" is the first of
six special programs sponsored
by the Morrow County Muse
um during the exhibition of
"Produce for Victory: Posters
on the Homefront 1941-45", a
Smithsonian exhibit at the
museum from May 13 through
July 12.
Darrell Millner, chairman of
the Black Studies Department
of Portland State University,
will explore the history of the
Tuskegee Airmen, a World War
II training program fur African-
American pilots, the first such
opportunity for blacks as
military flyers. The success of
the Tuskegee Airmen program
was pivotal in influencing
President Truman to desegre
gate the Armed Forces after the
war.
Dr. Millner will present his
program at the museum,
Thursday, May 18, at 7 p.m.
There is no charge and the
public is welcome and en
couraged to learn more about
this little known aspect of
military history, said Marsha
Sweek, museum director.
This program has been made
possible in part by a grant from
the Oregon Council for the
Humanities, an affiliate of the
National Endowment for the
Arts, said a news release.

resulting in a four-hour wait.
Green said that hunters have
been able to purchase the tags
since February, but pro
crastinated until the last day.
Eight to ten people opted not
to wait in line, and some drove
to Hermiston only to find a
longer line there, he said.
The next day Green was in
formed that the deadline had
been extended for one day.
Green said he called the mill to
notify as many people as possi

The tags were for deer, elk,
cougar, antelope and doe.

of Hope and Valby will observe
Rural Life Sunday, and honor
high school graduates at wor
ship services, Sunday, May 21.

Valby Lutheran, located on the
Ione-Gooseberry Road; and 11

the fields" will be part of the

careful use of the environment,
for good weather, abundant
harvests, for farmers and their
families, for those whose land
and way of life are threatened,
for the under employed and
unemployed, and for the
hungry of the world," said the
Reverend Stan Hoobing.
High school graduates, Kim
Bedortha and Jessica Stefani of
lone will be honored during
worship services at Valby; Greg
Holtz of lone, and Char Coe,
Kelsie Evans, Dani Hill and

Job 38:1-11, 16-18.
There will be an opportunity
to greet the graduates during
the reception following the
worship services.
