Gazette-Times
The gremlins got into this reporter's typewriter last week. The
garden club meeting and knitting were on Monday, May 1, not
Wednesday, and the bus went to Spray on April 20, not
Arlington.
Mary Goheen's name was left off the list of those receiving
orchid corsages at the Easter dinner.
There were 98 people present for the senior meal on April 26,
and four meals were home delivered. Marguerite Messenger won
the meal ticket, and Lydia Wilson received the birthday gift.
Members of the Methodist Church served. Mr. and Mrs.
McDonald traveled from Pendleton for the dinner. Blood
pressures were taken before the meal. In the afternoon, the cooks,
Corol Mitchell, and the menu committee met to choose menus
for June and July. Three volunteers totaled up Red Apple receipts.
The menu for May 10 will be chicken, cheese enchiladas, refried
beans, salad, fruit, jello and cookies. Members of the Lutheran
Church will serve. The Senior Center Board will meet following
the meal. Blood pressures will be taken at 11 p.m.
There was another fire alarm at the Senior Center early Satur
day morning, set off by a tenant's smoke alarm. Alarm turned
out to be false. Most of the tenants got out of the building and
over to the Red Apple. Many of the ladies were still in robes and
slippers. When the firemen gave the OK to go back to the apart
ments, the elevator would not work. Several tenants went home
with relatives Sunday to stay until the elevator was running again.
No movie was shown Sunday because of the elevator. On Mon
day, the repair man came from the Tri-Cities and fixed it.
A reminder for those that like to read, there is a well-stocked
library at the center. Seniors may borrow books any time. It is
appreciated when books are returned, especially Louis L'Amour's
westerns. The center is getting very short of those.
Rememer the health fair, Thursday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to
3 p.m. The bus will travel to Hermiston, May 18, at 10 a.m.
The seventh annual Jobs Fair,
sponsored by Blue Mountain
Community College, will take
place on the BMCC campus in
Pendleton, Thursday, May 4,
from 4-7 p.m.
Anyone from eastern Oregon
who is looking for or thinking
about a new job should attend
this fair. There is no charge for
attendance. At least 17 busi
nesses or agencies, many with
current openings, will be there
to answer questions about the
application process. Potential
employees are encouraged to
bring their resumes.

The preferred alternative
(Alternative B Modified) would
reduce permitted use from
3,777 AUMs (558 cow/calf pairs
and bulls) to 1,446 AUMs (419
cow/calf pairs and bulls). This
is necessary to make demand
equal with the actual carrying
capacity of the allotment. The
grazing season would be reduc
ed from 153 days (May 16 to
October 15) to 76 days. Graz
ing would alternate between
early use (May 1 to July 15) one
year and late use (August 16 to
October 30) the next. This
would remove grazing from the
allotment during the hottest,
driest part of the summer when
livestock concentrate in riparian

receive four consecutive years
of rest to allow vegetation to
regain vigor and increase
reproduction.
