Cross a beautiful sight
To the Editor:
We were in Heppner for St.
Patrick's Day. I lived there in
the 1940's and there was an
"old rugged cross" up on the
hill. Seeing that new white
cross glowing in the night sky
was a beautiful sight; tempered
however by the arrival of the
helicopter after the tragic
accident.
We extend our condolences
to the Taylor family.
We appreciate the work of
those responsible for the new
cross.

Letters to the Editor
To the Editor:
I am a sixth grader from
Heppner Middle School and I
am very disappointed about the
bicycle law. Now that there is
a law people can not ride
bicycles on the sidewalks there
have been more wrecks due to
our rough roads.
I, Kayla Long, and many
other people think there should
be a lane added so the people
on bikes and those driving will
feel safer.
I would appreciate your help
if you could possibly help out
with this problem.
Sincerely
(s) Kayla Sue Kay Long
To the Editor:
Please vote for the Morrow
County Unified Recreation
District levy that will be on the
September ballot.
This levy will fund co-
curricular activities in Morrow
County.
I feel that sports are impor
tant to kids to encourage them
to keep their grades up and
keep them off of the streets and
out of trouble.
Vote yes for co-curricular.
Vote yes for the kids of Morrow
County.
Sincerely,
__________ (s) Sarah Eckman
To the Editor:
I'm a sixth grader at Heppner
Middle School. Thanks to the
Parents' Club we get to go to
Tupper. They organized the
school carnival and the Tupper-
ware sale.
Tupper is an outdoor school
to teach us sixth graders about
the outdoors. So this is a letter
to let the Parents' Club and the
community who made it possi
ble for us sixth graders to go to
Tupper, I'm glad you did.
Sincerely,
___________ (s) Autum Chick
To the Editor:
I would like to complain
about not being able to ride
rollerblades on the sidewalks.
The policemen tell you to get
off the sidewalks, but the
notices on the sidewalks say:
"Bicycles and skateboards off".
It doesn't say anything about
rollerblades. So I think the
police should either add
rollerblades to the notices or let
us ride on the sidewalks.
Sincerely,
__________(s) Bradon Kanyid
To the Editor:
I would like to tell the com
munity of Heppner that I ap
preciate everything
the
business have done for the kids
of Heppner. The honor card
students that get 3.5 and higher
get certificates for free stuff at
their stores.
I would like to recognize the
coaches and helpers of little
league and Colt basketball for
spending their time to teach
kids good sportsmanship and
teamwork.
Chuck Matteson made a
special effort donating his time
taking a fifth and sixth grade
basketball team to the Her
miston Invitational Tourna
ment.
Sincerely,
_____________ (s) Craig Scott
To the Editor:
I would like to tell Dave
G underson and the Colt
coaches that I am glad they give
us a chance to play basketball.
I would also like to tell Chuck
Matteson that I was glad he
took us to the Hermiston In
vitational Tournament.
I appreciate the businesses
that donate certificate awards to
kids that got a 3.5 or higher in
school: Heppner Ranger
District, Bank of Eastern
Oregon, Gardner's, First In
terstate Bank, P eterson's
Jewelers, Heppner Gazette-
Times and Skaggs Action
Arcade.
Sincerely,

To the Editor:
I feel that there is a bicycle
and rollerblading problem in
Heppner. I think that kids
should be able to ride on the
sidewalks.
The streets in Heppner are
very rough and hard to roller
blade on. I know because I've
tried.
As for the bicycles, trying to
dodge car doors and trying to
stay out of the way is pretty
hard. I know that people are
scared of getting hit but maybe
the city can make a certain way
to get down town without hav
ing to dodge cars. It would be
better for smaller kids too.
Several people have sug
gested a certain lane or even
not having cars park so close to
the sidewalk. Maybe the city
can make Heppner better by
doing this simple little task.
Sincerely,
_________ (s) Sarah Donahue
