Missionaries to speak at McGuires Dance team plans fund raisers

Lunch with Santa slated for kids

newly appointed missionaries

about their ministry at the
home of Mike and Nancy
McGuire, 327 Linden Way,
Heppner, on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m.
The Johnsons anticipate serv­
ing in Cote d'Ivoire.
The Johnsons' love and
desire to work with children led
them to serve at the Interna­
tional Christian Academy, a
missionaries' children's school
in Bouake, Cote d'Ivoire. They
worked at ICA for two years
under the CBI Missionary
Assistants Corps program.
They look forward to returning
Santa Claus will be making a
visit to downtown Heppner on
Sunday, Dec. 11 at the Hepp-
ner Elks club.
According to Santa's helpers
santa will visit from noon to 3
p.m. Lunch will be served from
noon to 1 p.m. and kids will
CBI in January 1994 for career
service.
Mr. Johnson holds a bachelor
of science degree in education
from Oregon State University
in Corvallis. He taught science
for 20 years at a small school in
Grass Valley.
Mrs. Johnson served as the
station hostess at ICA. She took
care of the housing needs for all
ICA guests and MAC workers.
While living in Grass Valley,
the Johnsons became involved
at First Baptist Church, where
they are still members. Their
ministry at the church provid­
ed them with m any ex­
periences that they used while
serving at ICA.
Car washes, bake sales and a
community dance are a few of
the fund raisers that the Hepp-
ner Community Dance team
members have been working at
to raise money needed for
uniforms. The girls have also
received donations from the
com m u nity. D ance team

Future projects planned in-
elude working for Morrow
County Grain Growers, work-
ing the concession stands dur-
ing this year's alumni touma-
ment Dec. 30, 31 and Jan. 1;
and holding a raffle each

Singspiration at Hope Lutheran
Christmas carols such as 'O
Come All Ye Faithful', 'Hark
The Herald Angels Sing', 'Joy
to the World', 'The First Noel'
and 'Silent Night' will be sung
at the Singspiration service on
Su nday, Dec. 4 at Hope
Lutheran Church in Heppner.
The interdenominational ser­
vice begins at 7 p.m.
"Besides singing our favorite
Christmas Carols, this is a
golden opportunity to hear our
own South Morrow County
community chorus, under the
direction of Debbie Wryn, sing­
ing some special Christmas
music,” said the Rev. Stan

vice for the special ministries of
the South Morrow County
Ministerial Association. Money
gathered at singspiration ser­
vices are used to help people in
emergency situations such as
paying rent, utilities, and for
room and board for stranded
travelers.
People are encouraged to
bring commerically prepared
canned food that will be given
to the Neighborhood Center of
South Morrow County to dis­
tribute.
Following the service there
will be opportunity for fellow­
ship and some good old

Congregational worshippers

testam ent prophets Isaiah,
Jeremiah and Micah, proclaim

service at Hope Lutheran will
begin with a soup supper
beginning at 6 p.m. followed by
the advent service at 7 p.m. A
church council meeting will
follow the advent service.
Sunday morning, Dec. 4, the
congregations will celebrate a
service of Holy Communion
using Garry Cornell's setting of
the communion liturgy. The se­
cond candle of the advent

Friday school children prepare
for Christmas program
"Adventures in Faith” , the
Friday Sch ool at Hope
Lutheran church in Heppner
resumes December 2 at 9 a.m.
The emphasis of the program
during the month of December
will be getting ready for the
Christmas program, a musical
presentation entitled "Twinkle
and the All Star Angel Band” .
The Christmas program will
be presented Friday, Dec. 16 at
6 p.m. and again on Sunday,
Dec. 18 at 11 a.m.
Children are reminded to
bring food for the Neighbor­
hood Center. The food should
be commercially canned or
packaged.

Stan Hoobing will preach on
the theme "Prepare the W ay",
based on the reading from
Malachi 3:1-4 from the Old
Testament. The adult Bible
class at Valby will continue the
study of the Gospel of St. Luke.
Service will begin at 9 a.m. at
Valby and 11 a.m. at Hope.

of the Hope-Valby Lutheran
Parish.
There were 76 people present for the senior dinner nov. 23.
Joe Engleman won the meal ticket. Members of the Christian Life
Center served the meal. Frank Denton was the winner of the meal
ticket Nov. 16.
The menu for Dec. 7 will be spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, fruit
and bar cookies. Members of the Seventh-Day Adventist and
Nazarene churches will serve. Lynn Bibby and Eleanor Gonty
will be the hostesses for December. The hearing aid man will
be at the center at 10 a.m and blood pressures will be taken by
the county health nurse at 11 a.m. The Meal Site Committee will
meet following lunch.
Rachel Harnett spent the Thanksgiving weekend with her fami­
ly in Walla Walla, WA.
Alice Wagoner has moved into the apartment formerly occupied
by Florence Holt.
Nine people watched the movie "H ow the West Was Fu n ",
on Sunday night.
There will be an Area Agency on Aging meeting at the
Pendleton meal site Dec. 8.
The bils trip to the Mission meal site has been cancelled.
There will be a trip for viewing the Christmas lights and the
singing Christmas tree. The date will be announced later. A sign
up sheet is at the center office.
Any senior or disabled person needing transportation may call
Jane Rawlins Dollaride 676-9435. Rawlins also delivers meals from
the hospital to shut-ins.
Other dates to remember: Monday, Bible study 10 a.m.; Tues.
and Thurs. exercise, 10 a.m .; Friday cards, 2 p.m. Cards may
be played any afternoon that people want to get together. Sun­
day movie, 7 p.m.
