Cards downed Antelopes in opener
Powers was formidable foe
By Anne Morter
Powers brought a formidable
record and a formidable front
row player to the state tourna
ment in the form of 6 '4 " junior
Jenny Mowa. The lady Car
dinals had the opportunity to
watch Powers on Friday and
saw what they thought they
might be the chink in the armor
of the Cruisers, their semi-final
opponent. Instead of trying to
go through Mowa, when they
played them Sat., Nov. 12, they
tried going around and going
over her. Mowa's teammates
weren't able to respond when
the ball made it by Mowa. The
Cards used that advantage to
win the physical, hard fought
first game, 15-12. In the second
game the lady Cards looked

lone downs Dufur for championship
By Anne Morter
The title match held Satur
day, Nov. 12 at Springfield for
the State 1A volleyball cham
pionship turned out to be
rather anti climactic after the
rough and tumble Powers
match as the lady Cards took
out the Dufur Rangers in two
games 15-7, 15-8. The serious
and focused lady Cards were
prepared for the Rangers in
what was their third meeting
this season. Both games were
close until about the five point
mark when lone took com
mand and even though Dufur
had more time to rest, they fail
ed to respond to the challenge.
Coach Charity MCElligott felt
that Dufur for whatever reason,
didn't play nearly to the level
of the district championship or
even their pre-season match.
