Local students earn scholarships
Lori Straley of Heppner has
been selected the winner of the
Berkely-Despain Fund Scholor
ship. Chisana Warren, lone,
received the M ary Johns
scholarship. The Blue Moun­
tain C om m unity College
Scholarship Committe selected
award winners for the Berlely-
Despain Fund Scholarship, the
Mary Johns Scholarship, and
the David and Maria Nelson
Memorial Scholarship. Each
winner was awarded $1080 for
the 1994-95 academic year.

Sheadel, Boardman; Angela
Christman, Helix; Karen King
and Rozanne Lomis of Her-
m iston; Richard Young,
Milton-Frewater, Lore Martin,
L ynnetta G ibson, Tamara
Schulze, and Paula Spain of
Pendleton.
The Berkely-Despain fund
was established in memorv of
Norborne Berkely, a former
resident of the Pendleton area.
He was a descendant of a
pioneering family who settled
in the Umatilla/Morrow Coun­
ty region. Berkeley was a pro­
fessor emeritus in history at
Oregon State University.
Mary Johns winners include
Melodye Berry, Hermiston;
Elaine Austin, Pendeton; and
Jackie Bain-Bowen, Pilot Rock.

a longtime resident of Umatilla
County.
David and Maria Nelson win­
ners are Jackie Pishion and
Timothey McCormick, both of
Pendleton. Because McCormick
will attend BMCC fall and

and Maria Nelson, pioneer
residents of Umatilla County.
