Letter to the Editor
Call about lo st p ets im m ed iately
To the Editor:
Many people are so concern
ed when they either lose or find
an animal that they either do
nothing, or really just don't
know what to do.
There are a number of things
that need to be done, offer cold
water and food to the animal.
Especially in these days of
horrible heat, it takes a very
short time for an animal to
become dehydrated. Their
temperatures rise rapidly. The
water and shade will help take
care of this, and their
temperatures should start go
ing down immediately.
After these are done, follow
the directions below as rapidly
as possible.
Call the radio stations, and
ask them to broadcast, giving
the age, breed (as close as
possible, age, sex, color, and if
it has a collar on it). If the dog
or cat has a rabies tag, or a
Pioneer Humane Society tag on
it, the animal is on their way
home before this time.
Call the Hermiston Herald
and the East Oregonian. They
will publish found animals free.
If you have lost an animal, of
fer a reward, even if it is not a
large reward. It has also been
found very useful to get out
flyers, and stuff them in the
neighbor's paper boxes, and
further afield with these flyers,
or to get some children to do it
for you for very little. Just
remember how much your
animal is worth to you.
Call the veterinarians' of
fices, giving the same informa
tion you gave to the radio sta
tions and papers. They may
have had the animal brought to
them, or they may have some
news about it.
Then call the Pioneer
Humane Society in Hermiston,
367-2961, or Pendleton,
276-0181. Also call Pet Rescue,
367-7066.
The more promptly these
things are called out, the more
rapidly we as a group can go to
work finding the animals, and
get them hack to their righful
owners.
Also very imporant, if you
find your animal or the owner
ot the animals, please call us
and Pet Rescue. It's only fair,
and is appreciated deeply Our
job is to help you, hut we must
have your cooperation. It is
really appreciated. Thank you.
(Please clip this so you will
have it at hand to use as
reference. It will come in
handy.)
Sincerely,
(s) Roberta Davis
