Obituary___
EfTie L. Snabel Stirewalt
Funeral services for Effie L.
Snabel Stirewalt will be held at
11 a.m. Saturday, May 21, 1994
at the Assembly of God Church
in Spray. Interment will follow at
Winlock Cemetery near Spray.
Mrs. Stirewalt, 77, of Spray, died
Monday, May 16, 1994 at
Pioneer Memorial Hospital in
Heppner, OR.
She was born May 5, 1917 on
the family homestead at Spray,
OR. to Ezra and Sarah Hope Kir­
by Snabel, the sixth of nine
children. She was raised and at­
tended school at Spray. Her 1932
champion basketball team was
undefeated. Effie graduated from
Spray High School in 1935.
She was employed for a time
at Montgomery Ward in
Portland.
On Feb. 9, 1940, she married
James McFadden Stirewalt at
Fossil. Their first home was on
Sourdough Ridge in Wheeler Co.
They moved to Kimberly in 1946
and back to the Snabel
Homestead in 1972, where she
resided until the time of her
death.
She was clerk for the Winlock
school for two years. 4-H played
a big part in her life. She was a
4-H leader in both Wheeler and
Grant counties for 34 years,
receiving numerous awards. Her
clubs included cooking, sewing,
outdoor cookery, bachelor sew­
ing. and food preservation. Effie
was a member of Home Exten­
sion and instrumental in getting
the first agent in Grant County.
She was also on seven county
committees. A few of the Exten­
sion classes she taught were sew­
ing, tailoring, cooking and cake
decorating which was a specail-
ty at holidays, birthdays,
showers, weddings and anniver­
saries. She always helped at the
school with athletic activities,
cake walks and room-mother. Ef-
fie’s large garden supplied fami­
ly and friends.
Effie and Jim helped start the
first Spray Rodeo and they have
I always been active members with
Effie in charge of the Queen and
Court, also making their suits for
12 years. The Eastern Oregon
Pioneer Assoc, gave her the
honor of being Pioneer Queen on
July 20, 1991 at Julia Henderson
Park.
Survivors include her husband,
Jim, at the home; daughters, Judy
Bertsch of Stanfield, Dina
Naydo, Lula Daniels both of
Sisters, Elizabeth Parke of
Beaverton, Nancy Wilson of
Fossil; son, James II of Ter­
rebonne; sisters Pansie Michel of
Powell Butte, Della Stirewalt,
Hermiston and Ellen Nash of
Stanfield; 15 grandchildren and
two great-grandchildren.

Marie Dae McQuarrie
Marie Dae M cQuarrie,
Roseburg, formerly of Heppner,
died at her home on May 10.
1994 after a lengthy illness. She
was 77 years old.
Mrs. McQuarrie was born
January 18, 1917 at Great Falls,
Montana, to Milton and Lucy
Jackson Lehner. She married
Clinton McQuarrie on August 17,
1937, at Missoula, Montana. She
attended Missoula County High
School and Kinman Business
School. She was secretary to the
owner of Kinzua Pine Mill in
Kinzua. During World War II,
Marie moved to Arlington

awaiting Clinton’s arrival from
Germany. Eight years later they
bought Central Market in Hepp­
ner. While there she was a
member of the Episcopal Church,
Soroptimist International of
Heppner. She was an avid golfer
at the Willow Creek Golf Course
where she had two hole in ones.
They retired in 1976 and spent
many winters in Yuma, Arizona
before moving to Roseburg in
1986.
She is survived by her husband
Clinton at the home; daughter,
Susan Reisman and her husband
Keith of Roseburg; son Daniel
and his wife JoAnn of Portland;
five grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.

Roseburg, 97470.
Wilson’s Chapel of the Roses,
Roseburg, was in charge of

May 17: Morrow County
deputy began investigation of
vandalism of windows at
Estregaard Estates in Boardman;
Morrow County deputy began
investigation of theft of a mobile
home hitch and ball on 9th street
Irrigon;
Morrow County deputy began
investigation of a theft in Irrigon;
Morrow County deputy in­
vestigated a report of reckless
driving. Deputy was unable
locate driver;
Morrow County deputy
recovered a stolen vehicle from
Eugene. Vehicle was taken to
Boardman;
Morrow County deputy ar­
rested David Earl Morgon, for
Driving Under the Influence of
Intoxicants and an Open Con­
tainer. He was released on his
own recognizance.
May 18; Morrow County
deputy began investigation of
stolen parts from Irrigon;
Morrow County deputy began
investigation of a possible stolen
car in Irrigon;
Morrow County Sheriffs of­
fice dispatched the Arlington fire
department for a residence fire in
Arlington.
Injuries were
unknown;
Morrow County Sheriffs of­
fice dispatched the Mitchell am­
bulance to a residence on High
Street for an adult male with
unknown injuries. Patient was
transported to Prineville.
May 19; Morrow County
deputy investigated a report of an
unusual phone call in the Irrigon
area. Call was unfounded;
Morrow County deputy
assisted the Umatilla Army Depot
fire dept, with a power pole that
was downed;
Morrow County Sheriffs of­
fice dispatched the Boardman am­
bulance to a residence on Kunze
Road for a 21 year old male with
an illness. There was no
transport;
Morrow County deputy
responded to an Irrigon residence
in response to an animal trespass­
ing on private property.
