BMCC offers interesting classes
PUBLIC NOTICE

Blue Mountain Community
College has some interesting of­
ferings coming up soon in the
area, such as a felting class and
shoebox to photo album class.
People interested in the status of
classes, dates, places and times
should contact BMCC coor­
dinator Anne Morter 422-7040
for more information or to
register.
Felting is an old time craft and
students will start with raw
woool, process it and end up with
a pair of slippers, all in four hours
time. The class will be held April
30 at Heppner Elementary School
from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Cost is
$10 with a $6 lab fee paid to the
instructor.
“ Shoebox to Photo Album" is
another four-hour class that will
help a person organize and
display their favorite photographs
in safe, long term storage. In­
structor Shannon Rust of Echo
will share tips on cropping, label­
ing, photo journalism and page
decoration. If you are interested
in preserving your favorite photos
and organizing your life at the
same time, this class is for you,
says Morter. Tuition is $10 with
a $5 lab fee paid to the instructor
at the class. Students are asked to
bring a selection of favorite
photographs to the class, which
is scheduled for Saturday, April
23, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
at the district office in Lexington.
"With spring term well under­
way, I am now recruiting for
Summer term classes,” con­
cludes Morter. Give her a call if
there’s a class you would like to
see in the area.
District spelling contest slated
The annual Morrow County
School District spelling contest
will be held on Wednesday, April
27, at the Heppner Elementary
School beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The top three spellers in each at­
tendance area will be competing
in three divisions: Division I,
elementary through grade five;
Division II, grades six through
eight and Division III. grades
nine through 12.
The first place winners from
each division of the district con­
test will qualify to participate in
the state of Oregon spelling con­
test to be held at the Oregon State
Fair September 3.
The public is welcome to
observe the district contest. Lin­
da Shaw is in charge of local ar­
rangements. Refreshments will
be served at the end of
competition.
Broadcast slated at Mormon church
A special satellite broadcast by
Elder Russell M. Nelson of the
Council of the Twelve Apostles
will be held at the Church of
Jesus Christ of the Latter-day
Saints in Lexington on Sunday,
April 24, at 7 p.m.
Everyone is invited to attend.
Meetings scheduled on Health Plan
An information session concer­
ning the Oregon Health Plan is
scheduled for Thursday, April
28, at 3:30 p.m. at the St.
P atrick ’s Senior C enter.
Informational meetings are also
scheduled in Boardman on Fri­
day, May 6, at 9:30 a.m. at the
Grange Hall; and in Heppner on
Tuesday, May 24, at 6:30 p.m.
and on Thursday, June 16 at 9:30
a.m ., both at the Senior Center.

tension Service District” . The

of such district formation.

Purpose:
The purpose of the district is to
insure continued delivery of
Oregon State University 4-H and
Extension Service programs to
the people of Morrow County, by
formation of a service district
with it’s own tax base.
Name and Boundaries:
The name of the district would
be the “ Morrow County 4-H and
Extension Service District” . The
boundaries of the district would
be the boundaries of Morrow
County Oregon, as presently set

Community Action Program of
East Central Oregon (CAPECO)
is currently planning the Program
Year 1994 and 1995 Job Train­
ing Plan. CAPECO expects to
receive approximately $725,000
in Job Training Partnership Act
(JTPA) funds for the Program
Year 1994 beginning July 1, 1994
and ending June 30. 1995 to serve
the District 12 area of Morrow
and Umatilla counties. The total
number of participants to be serv­
ed is expected to be 300.
Program s will focus on
classroom training, on-the-job
training, education reform ac­
tivities such as mentorship, job
shadowing, structured work ex­
perience, and youth appren­
ticeship, and pre-employment
training activities. Program ac­
tivities are provided in different
formats utilizing local agencies,
private sector employers, and
school districts, as well as in-
house training opportunities.
