Mac Hi Pioneers outrun Mustangs
The Heppner Mustangs ran in­
to a team that likes to run and
press like the Mustangs and that
spelled defeat. Friday, December
17. as the visiting Mac Hi
Pioneers scored a 76-66 victory

Heppner jumped out to a 23-17
first quarter lead as Joe Healy

season-high 24 points. The

There were 92 people present for the senior dinner Dec. 15, with
one guest. Ten meals were sent out. Members of the Lutheran Church
served. Lois Allyn won the meal ticket, Betty Marquardt the door
prize and Eva Mabbot of Pendleton, the guest prize.
The menu for the birthday dinner Dec. 29 will be barbecued
chicken, tator tots, three bean salad, fresh fruit, cake and ice cream.
Members of the Mormon church will serve.
The beautiful wreath hanging in the senior center office is a
Christmas gift to the center from Corol Mitchell and Merri Reamer.
Children from the elementary school toured the halls and sang to
the tenants in their rooms last week. What a lovely group of singers
they are.
Due to the VCR or the TV not working properly there was no movie
shown Sunday night.
Merry Christmas everyone.

Mac Hi turned the tables, run­
ning to a 42-40 halftime lead with
a 25-17 second quarter burst.
Senior guard Alim Meza, with
eight points, and Joe Parks, a
6'4” senior with nine points, pac­
ed the Pioneers in the quarter.
Mac Hi. which has beaten both
Enterprise and Weston-McEwcn
in the pre-season, kept up the
pressure in the third quarter. The
Mustangs couldn't keep up the
blistering pace and the deep
Pioneer bench and Mac Hi
jumped out to a nine point lead.

Parks scored eight more of his
game high 25 points in the
quarter. Meza, a cat-quick guard,
ended the game w ith 19 counters
and Eric White added 12 points-
Rick Koffler was the only other
Mustang in double figures with
14 points.
The Pioneers shot a sizzling 53
percent from the field on 31-59
shooting. The Mustangs kept
pace the first half, shooting 41
percent but cooled off to 30 per­
cent in the second half.
The loss was the second for the
Mustangs against 3A schools.

The Heppner Fillies got sweet
revenge Saturday night, Dec. 11,
when they beat the Class 3A
Riverside Pirates 53-39.
Heppner led by 23 points at the
half and coasted. Junior Kelsie
Evans led the Fillies with 12
points and six steals. Jenny Krein
added 10 points and 10 rebounds
while Holly Eckman had eight
assists for Heppner. Every Filly
scored in the balanced attack.
Heppner lost 5’7” junior Rondi
Robinson with a knee injury dur­
ing the game. She will be out for
the season.
The Heppner Oregon Together
Group is sponsoring a winter
dance at the Heppner High
School cafetorium on Thursday,
December 30 from 9 p.m. to 1
a.m. The dance is open to
students of lone and Heppner
High School students and recent
‘93 graduates home for the
holidays. Music is by Dan Bums
and 3-D Productions.
The Heppner Masonic Lodge
NO. 69, the Soroptimist Interna­
tional of Heppner and student
council of Heppner High will
provide free non alcoholic drinks
and snacks. The cost is $1 per
person.
This is one of four non­
alcoholic and non-drug dances
sponsored during the year for the
youth of the community by the
Heppner Oregon Together group
and other local organizations.
