Lynn Lundquist
Eastern Oregon cattleman
Lynn Lundquist has announced
his candidacy for state represen
tative in House District #59.
Lundquist and his wife. Barb,
have owned a diversified ranch in
Powell Butte since 1976. He
managed a large Willamette
Valley Co-op prior to that. “ I
know what it is to meet a payroll,
to make those hard decisions that
preserve the “bottom line'. and to
work towards solutions that
enhance both our economy and
our environment.” Lundquist
said as he announced his can
didacy for the Republican
nomination.
“ I have a sense of what makes
Oregon ‘tick’. My business ex
perience, natural resource
background and mature common
sense approach to the challenges
we all face will enable me to
make a positive impact on the
values we cherish, personal rights
and opportunities, a sound educa
tion system, and the opportunity
to be gainfully employed while
enjoying the quality of life we
desire,” Lundquist said.
Lundquist received a B.S. from
Oregon State college and an M.S.
from the University of Connec
ticut. He taught economics at
George Fox College. He says his
leadership activities began early
in his school years when he serv
ed as state FFA president and
have continued throughout his
adult life. He has served on a
local school board, county budget
committee and is chairman of the
Crook County Planning Commis
sion. He recently was appointed
to the state board of agriculture
and is currently president of the
Oregon Cattlemen's Association.

lives are influenced a great deal
by legislative actions. I'm excited
about the opportunity to represent
the people of eastern Oregon in
the State legislature and I am
willing to give my time and
energy to have an effect on the
process.”

Obituaries
Esther M. Dobyns
Esther M. Dobyns, 93, of
Eugene, a former longtime resi
dent of lone, died Wednesday,
Dec. 8, 1993 at a nursing home
in Eugene.
The funeral was held Monday,
Dec. 13 at the Valby Lutheran
Church with concluding service
and burial at Valby Cemetery.
Mrs. Dobyns was born July 6,
1900 at Eightmile to Aaron and
Ida Peterson. She grew up in the
Eightmile and lone area and at
tended local schools.
On April 6. 1923, she married
Walter Dobyns at lone. The cou
ple lived at lone until 1963 when
they moved to Eugene.
Mrs Dobyns was an active
member of Eastern Star, Locust
Chapter 32, of lone; and the
Valby Lutheran Church.
She enjoyed gardening, stit-
chery, baking and visiting
friends.
Survivors include a daughter,
Wilma Hardesty of Eugene; three
grandchildren and two great
grandchildren. Her husband,
Walter, died in 1964. Five
brothers also preceded her in
death.
Memorial contributions may be

Donald Worth Jones
Word has been received of the
death of former Heppner resident
Donald W. Jones, 76, of Nassau
Circle, Tavares, Florida, who
died on Nov. 25, 1993.
Mr. Jones was born in Hepp
ner on Sept. 26, 1917 to Robert
Emmett and Arrah Lexie Miller
Jones. After his parents died he
was raised by his grandparents
Charley and Luella Farwell
Miller. He attended school in
Heppner and served in the U.S.
Navy in WWII. He moved to
Florida in 1964. He was a sales
, representative in the trucking
business and was a member of the
Baptist Church in Tavares.
Mr. Jones was preceded in
death by his parents and two
brothers, Robert and Kenneth, he
is survived by his wife Lillian;
stepchildren, David Miller of
Calif., Liz Funderburk of Eustis,
Florida and Barbara Weaver of
Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Edna
Hausworth of Salem; nine grand
children and several cousins in
Oregon and California, including
Paul and Floyd Jones, Heppner.
Funeral services were held in
the Tavares Chapel of Hamlin &
Hilbish Funeral Home Nov. 29.
Interment was in the Florida Na
tional Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.
John Hamilton Barrie
John Hamilton Barrie, 81, La
Conner. WA., passed away Sun
day, Dec. 12 at his residence.
Cremation was conducted at
the Mount Vernon Cemetery
under the direction of the Kern
Funeral Home. There will be no
services at his request. Inurnment
will take place Thursday, Dec. 16
in Heppner.
Mr. Barrie was bom June 19,
1912 in Walla Walla, WA., to
James and Margaret Thomsen
Barrie. He was raised and attend
ed schools in Walla Walla, where
he was active in Boy Scouts, at
taining the rank of Eagle Scout.
He graduated from Walla Walla
High School in 1929 and in 1933
he graduated from Whitman Col
lege, where he was a member of
Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He
was employed by Shell Oil Com
pany for 40 years, retiring in
1973 in Chicago, as manager of
employee relations for Central
Marketing Region. He served
during WWII as a Naval Lieute
nant Commander. He was a
charter member of the Shelter
Bay Yacht Club. He married
Agnes Nelsen on Oct. 13, 1975
in Seattle. Wa.
Survivors include his wife,
Agnes of La Conner; a son Brian
Barrie of Duvall. WA.; three
daughters Mary Ann Durfee of
Crooked River Ranch; Sue Ellen
Contreras of Kirkland. WA.; and
Debra Barrie of Atlanta. Ga.; two
sisters Jan Mahaffie of Sedro
W oolley. WA. and Bee
Chamberlain of Walla Walla; six
grandchildren and one great gran-
daughter. He was preceded in
death by wives Patricia Monahan
Barrie and Betty Edwards Barrie.
