Hats off to HHS students
To the Editor:
I have been involved in a varie
ty of youth activities the past 25
years. Many of them have been
as a parish pastor and others have
been with various community
organizations.
My hats off to the students of
Heppner High School. I was real
ly pleased with the cooperation
and friendliness of the students at
the dance sponsored by the
Oregon Together Group after the
first home football game.
There were no problems and
the youth left the building and

A story in the Sept. 8 issue of
the Gazette-Times entitled “ New
playground installed at Heppner
Elementary School should have
read “ Oregon School Employees
A ssociation’’ donated' $100
toward funding the playground
equipment. The group was incor
rectly identified as the Oregon
State Education Association.

The Morrow County Sheriffs
office reports dispatching the
following business during the past
week:
September 14: Morrow Coun
ty Sheriff s office dispatched the
Boardman Fire Dept, to a fire on
the Boardman Railroad tracks in
volving the train;
Morrow County deputy handl
ed a neighborhood dispute in the
Irrigon area;
Morrow County Sheriff s of
fice dispatched the Boardman
Fire Dept, to Mt. Hood Ave., for
a grass fire;
Morrow County Sheriff s of
fice dispatched the Condon Fire
Dept, to a fire on W. Frazier St.
Condon;
M orrow County deputy
delivered a message to Cycle
Oregon VI Mission Control for
one of the cyclists;
Morrow County deputy began
investigation of a reported
burglary in Irrigon. Nothing was
taken. Investigation is continuing;
M orrow County deputy
assisted the Boardman Police
Dept, to attempt to locate a possi
ble drunk driver in the Boardman
area. Police were unable to locate
driver.
September 15: Morrow Coun
ty Sheriffs office arrested Mit
chell R. Drury, 35, Irrigon for
Burglary I and Driving While
Suspended felony. Drury was
lodged at Benton County Jail;
Morrow County Sheriff s of
fice dispatched the Lexington
EMT’s and. the Heppner am
bulance to Clarks Canyon road.
One female was transported to
Pioneer Memorial Hospital with
an injury;
M orrow County deputy
responded to Slaughter House
Road, Heppner for a report of
garbage being dumped on private
property. Investigations are
continuing;
M orrow County deputy
assisted the Port of Morrow with
a small fire in one of their circles;
Morrow County deputy check
ed out a report of a suspicious
vehicle on Hwy. 74 just south of
Lexington. The vehicle was not
a road hazard and had been aban
doned, apparently disabled;
Morrow County deputy in
vestigated a report o f a
neighborhood noise problem with
dogs barking in Irrigon.
September 16: Morrow Coun
ty deputy responded to the Board-
man rest area to investigate a
suspicious driver. Problem was
resolved;
M orrow County deputy
assisted the Irrigon ambulance
with an injured person. Patient
refused transport;
Morrow County Sheriff s of
fice dispatched the Boardman am
bulance to a business in Board-
man for a person with an
unknown illness or injury. Patient
refused transport;
M orrow County deputy
responded to Heppner to in
vestigate a report of a suspicious
vehicle;
Morrow County Sheriff s of
fice dispatched the Heppner am
bulance to a residence on Court
Street. One person was
transported to Pioneer Memorial
Hospital with an unknown illness;
M orrow County deputy
assisted the Oregon State Police
with a possible accident on 1-84,
near mile post 177;
Morrow County Sheriff s of
fice dispatched the Spray am
bulance to a residence outside of
Spray for a male with an
unknown illness. There was no
transport.
September 17: Morrow Coun
ty deputy responded to investigate
a driving complaint on 1-84. The
vehicle was headed towards
Boardman;
M orrow County deputy
responded to the Irrigon area to
investigate a report of a traffic
hazard;
M orrow County deputy
responded to a residence near
Boardman to take a possible

September 18: Morrow Coun
ty deputy responded to investigate
a report of two possible drunk
drivers east bound on 1-84,
milepost 171. Deputy was unable
to locate drivers;
Morrow County Sheriff s of
fice dispatched the Heppner ahi-
bulance to a residence in the Sand
Hollow area. One person was
transported to Pioneer Memorial
Hospital with an injury;
Morrow County deputy took a
report o f suspicious c ir
cumstances in Boardman at the
BP station;
Morrow County Sheriffs of
fice dispatched the ambulance to
a Boardman residence. One per
son was transported to Good
Shepherd Community Hospital
with an unknown illness;
Morrow County Sheriffs of
fice dispatched the Boardman am
bulance to meet with a party at the
am bulance fire hall for a
transport. One person was
transported to Good Shepherd
Com m unity H ospital with
unknown injuries;
Morrow County Sheriffs of
fice responded to investigate the
report of a motor vehicle accident
on 1-84, east bound, milepost
165. It was a non injury accident
non hazardous to traffic.
September 19: Morrow Coun
ty deputy responded to secure the
area of a residence fire on
Washington St., Irrigon until the
fire department arrived. There
was some ammunition in the
residence that was going off;
Morrow County Sheriff s of
fice dispatched the Fossil am
bulance to a residence on B
Street. There was no transport;
Morrow County Sheriffs of
fice dispatched the Arlington am
bulance to 1-84, west bound,
milepost 138. There was no
transport;
M orrow County deputy
responded to Olson Road, Board-
man for a traffic problem;
Morrow County Sheriffs of
fice dispatched the Boardman am
bulance to Faler Road. One per
son was transported to Good
Shepherd Hospital with an
illness.

plans barbecue
and auction

Methodist Church annual auction
and barbecue will be held Satur
day, September 25 on the
downtown mall. In case of incle
ment weather it will be held at the
North Gilliam County Fire Hall.
Barbecue tickets may be purchas
ed for $5 for adults and $2.50 for
children. The auction will begin
at 10 a.m. Auctioneers are Frank
Bettencourt, Terry Roberts and
Joe Patnode.
Other activities for the day are
a silent auction, flea market, bake
sale and ch ild ren ’s booth.
Booklets for door prize drawings
are available with a $1 donation.
