Article misses point
To the Editor:
There appears to be some con
fusion in your article concerning
my conflict of interest complaint
against Judge Carlson. The cen
tral point of my complaint was
passed over very lightly in your
interview with Judge Carlson.
Judge Carlson appears to have us
ed his position as a county official
to designate a quarry site on pro
perty owned by 4-C Corporation
(president) and to accept road
work on Warfield road as pay
ment for royalties on the rock.
official profiting from his position
as said official is in violation of
Oregon Statutes.
Personal discussions with
Judge Carlson concerning this
matter would have been inap
propriate since his actions af
fected not just me, but every
citizen of Morrow County. The
resolution of this matter should
depend on the decision of the
State of Oregon Ethics Commis
sion based on material submitted
and subsequent investigation
should it go that far.
Sincerely,
(s) Jim McElligott

Neighborhood Center actions explained
To the Editor:
People have been asking why
is the Neighborhood Center of
South Morrow County advertis
ing for a full time coordinator in
late July early August when they
hired someone in February.
The reason is that in January
the Neighborhood Center Board
of Directors wanted a coordinator
for only six months while the
board worked on some in house
issues concerning the operation of
the center and future directions
that the Neighborhood Center
might explore.
The six month period is over,
the board has assessed its situa
tion and so now the position of
coordinator is now permanent
and full time. The board also felt
even though we are pleased with
the interim person and that one
may reapply for the job, that we
ought to open the application pro
cess to the public which we are
now doing. Application process
closes on the 16th of August.
