First Christian Church plans
Mother’s day breakfast
First health fair held at senior center
The first Health Fair in Hepner
was a “ smashing success” accor
ding to Focus on Health convenor
the Rev. Stan Hoobing. Hoobing
said that the success of the fair
was largely due to the efforts of
the Focus Group on Health and
the exhibitors.
Tbe health fair was held Thurs
day, April 29 at the senior center.
Exhibitors included: Irene
Schroeder, who presented an ex
hibit on the “ Art of Bird Wat
ching” ; Jane Rawlins, who'
brought the new Dollar Ride van
and had exhibits on the Dollar
Ride program, Heppner In-
tergenerational Theater and Hot
Lunch Express; and Grace Drake
who had an exhibit on the sum
mer youth project. The fair also
featured displays on work and the
programs of the Neighborhood
Center of South Morrow County
and Heppner’s Oregon Together
Project. Nella Britt had promo
tional material on Vange John
Memorial Hospice, Inc.; Molly
Rhea, director of Pioneer
Memorial Home Health gave free
blood pressure checks and blood
sugar analysis; and John and Ann
Murray had healthful pharmacy
information from Murray’s Drug
store. Bonna Rae Miller and
Kathy Ashley gave out tips on
danger signals from the American
Cancer Society on this disease;
and Florence Holt and Robanai
Disque had a display on the work
of “ Air Life of Oregon” . Mor
row County Public Health had a
table of assorted pamphlets on
various subjects for the health
conscious person. Information on
health foods and diet was provid
ed by representatives of the
Seventh Day Adventist church.
The men of the First Christian
Church in Heppner are preparing
breakfast for the ladies in honor
of Mother’s Day on Sunday. May
9. All mothers and wives of
members and friends are invited
to attend.

Lovett took the 100 meters in
11.9 and the 200 in 25.1. Other
first-place finishers were David
Wagenblast in the 400 in 56.6 and
Rob Crum in the 3000 meters in
11.24.1. THe 400 relay team was
victorious in 48.5 as was the 1600
team in 3:57.3.

Melissa McElligott was a triple
winner, taking first in the long
jump at 14’8” , the triple jump at
32’ 1” and the 100 meters in 13.5.
Becky Wagenblast had two wins,
taking the high jump in 4 ’4 ” and
the 800 meters in 2:45.0. Jamie
Lovett won the discus with a
throw of 87’2 " and Kim Bedor-
tha won the 3000 in 14:19.8.

Chamber Chatter
This community needs a large
dose of sunshine, as it’s a busy
week with many visitors. Friday
offers the opportunity to take
your wife, mother, a teacher and
your family to All Saints for a
great Italian dinner. Call for
reservations for either the 5:30 or
7:15 seating to enjoy a candlelight
dinner.
Saturday, be ready to greet 500
to 1000 motorcyclists as they
come through Heppner during the
Rose City Oregon 500. chamber
will be on hand to greet them with
brochures; the Masons will be
holding a hamburger feed in the
city park and the Senior Center
will be having hot turkey sand
wiches. Both meals are open to
the public. Join them and meet
the Portland visitors.
Next week's chamber program
promises to be interesting. Dave
Sykes will be bringing a guest
speaker who will address the
topic: “ Does the media influence
our lives?” The Heppner High
School choir will also perform.

week and mothers for Mother's

The Cattlemen’s Association is of
fering a $ 1,500 reward for in
formation leading to the arrest and
conviction of the persons responsible
for the shooting and butchering of a
calf on Buttercreek recently.

A reunion for the students, staff
and friends of the old Boardman
School will be held Saturday and
Sunday, June 26 and 27 at the
Boardman Marina Park.
