Letters to the Editor
Sounds like blackmail
To the Editor:
Just want to voice my opinion
on the Gary Marks situation on
having the city co-sign for a down
payment on a house.
Who does he think he is. God?
Well, he isn’t.
Does he think he’s non
replaceable? Well he can be
replaced as easily as the rest of
us can.
And to me it sounds like a form
of black mail, threatening to quit
if we don't co-sign. Well, I say
pack your bag and good luck at
the next stop.
We need to stop this kind of
crap in our government.
Let’s start right here at home,
and go on up where needed.
Heppner Council People:
A suggestion, if you would run
a copy of your agenda in advance
to your meetings, people could
voice their opinions before things
go to far. And, maybe if you
didn’t greet people with “ What
are you doing here?” more of us
would show more of an interest
in city government.
But most of all, remember you
are representing the city as a
whole, not just a few individuals.

Wells Spring site under control
To the Editor:
l am writing in response to
Tom Hughes letter concerning
the condition of the Well Springs
Oregon Trail Site on Emmigrant
Road.
This site is under the control of
the Navy Bombing Range person
nel. Therefore, Morrow County
Historical Society must work in
cooperation and with the permis
sion of the Navy. In December a
group of interested persons met
with Navy Lieutenant Page and
Glen Hinsdale of the National
Park service to discuss plans for
the Oregon Trail in that area. The
navy has a contract with National
Park Service to draw up a plan
for development of the site. This
plan cannot be implemented
before the end of the year.
Therefore, members of the Mor
row County Historical Society
are doing their best to prepare the
site for the influx of visitors ex
pected this summer to celebrate
the Sesquicentennial of the great
migration on the Oregon Trail
which began in 1843. The infor
mation signs are now in place in
the Kiosk with a place to register
your name when you visit the
site. This last spring members of
the Oregon-California Trails
Association placed white markers
along the trail to mark the ruts.
Local members are getting the
site cleaned up and the fence
mended. We want to keep the
area as natural as we can.
Therefore we are leaving the old
locust tree just as it is when it fell
in the storm of August 6, 1990.
Anyone who is interested in
preserving historical sites in the
county is invited to join the local
historical society by contacting
Ruth McCabe, Delpha Jones or
Jean Nelson or any other
member.
