Are the Trail Blazers being
good role models for the youth of
Oregon? In my opinion, I don’t
think so. I think that it is a terri
ble phenomenon that they would
do such a thing.
I have always been a big Trail
Blazer fan. I always participate in
the reading program. I have
posters in my bedroom, I watch
their games and cheer them on.
I had considered them to be role
models until they were involved
with the sex scandal in Salt Lake
City.
I think the players involved in
this incident should be suspend
ed for three games. Then I think
they should have to make a public
apology.

The contaminated food at Jack
in the Box is a tragic story, many
people have become very sick,
and some have died from this
bacteria, and some are lying on
their death beds.
I think laws should be more
strict from when the cow is but
chered to when to meat is cooked.
The governm ent should
become more active and do
something about it fast.
Jack in the Box also offered to
pay for medical expences which
I think wa» very kind of them.
Hopefully this type of thing will
never happen again. Stricter laws
would make sure it doesn’t.

I think that the Arthur Ashe’s
death from AIDS is really sad but
what really makes me mad is that
the media was snooping into his
Aids problem. I think that the
media is way to snoopy and that
they go into peoples problems too
much.
I think that sometimes the
media should be inquisitive, but
not about something that is so
private. I hope that you can print
this in your newspaper.

Picking an attorney general has
never been so hard. Why?
Because the last two people that
have been picked have broken the
law. Why didn't they figure that
out before they were chosen? I
think that if you’re in trouble with
the law then you shouldn’t even
qualify for positions of such
power not to mention a trial don’t

Force. There were three men
who do karate and several stunts.
They came to our school to show
us a good time and to talk about
sex, making choices doing the
best we can. We all liked the
show and the talk they gave us.

I think the Media is way too
snoopy. In my opinion I think the
media should stay out of people's
personal lives. For instance, I
think Arthur Ashe shouldn't have
been made to go public and tell
everybody he had AIDs. The
media should have just let Arthur
Ashe keep it between him, his
family and his doctor.
But sometimes it is important
for the media to find out things
like the Pack wood issue. But
otherwise they should stay out of
people’s personal lives.

an interesting thing. This year is
the Oregon Trail’s 150th anniver
sary. It's a good idea to have a
new wagon train to travel west
the Oregon Trail this year.
I think this will encourage peo
ple to learn about the Oregon
Trail and the people's way of liv
ing back then.
Join in the celebration at Cecil
in August and visit museums
around the state.

the

I am a 6th grader from Hep-
penr Middle School. I have no
problem with loggers, but when
they clear cut big thickets where
elk are it’s a problem. The pro
blem is when they clear cut all of
the elk are left in the open and
poachers shoot them and get
away with it. It also affects peo
ple when they’re trying to hunt
because there’s nothing to hide
behind.
After the loggers are done log
ging they put it in big piles and
leave it and I don’t like it and
most other people don’t either.
We all need to clean up after
ourselves.

should be allowed in the military
because they’re human like
everyone else, and I don’t think
its anybody elses business who
they date. And I don’t think its
the gays are the problem. I think
it’s the heterosexuals that are
against them that are the problem
and I completely disagree with
the OCA and there ballot measure
9 last November after they’re in
the service to make peace not to
create problems.

I were bored this summer. We
needed something to do. The pool
in lone is too small for us and the
lone kids. So. instead of painting
the police cars, why didn’t we put
that money toward the pool? I'm
not complaining, but more things
could be done. I’d like everybody
to support the community efforts
to raise money for the pool.

I’m a sixth grade student at
Heppner Middle School.
I like the loggers but I hate the
mess. I almost grew up in the
mountains and I’ve seen it
myself. The clear cuts are need
ed some of the time but the mess
isn’t. I mean the air filters and
hoses and stuff. The Forest Ser
vice won’t make the loggers clean
up. But they’re all for kicking the
cows off the waters and streams.
So stop nagging the ranchers and
get on the problem, loggers, not
all loggers, but some of them.
Please start cleaning up for the
real needs like the deer, elks, fish
and other wild game.

This year I went to a Trail
Blazer game. I really think they
are neat. I thought that the Magic
Johnson speech would keep
everyone from doing all that
stuff.
The Trail Blazers are role
models for all kinds of kids. Then
they go out and set a bad exam
ple for kids like me. I am really
disappointed about this. I thought
they would get a better example
than this. I really hope that this
won’t encourage kids to do what
they did. They are always en
couraging us not to do drugs, stay
in school and read. I wish they
could have acted like responsible
adults.

I am disappointed in the Trail
Blazers this year and I know a lot
of people who feel the same. Not
only have they been losing their
games, but they have also been
acting irresponsible. For them to
act as good role models they
should act responsible on and off

Lake City. I am a Blazer fan but
I think they have let the young
people of Oregon down.

Would you please print this ar
ticle in your newspaper. "Ladies
and Gentlemen, would you all
remember the Oregon Trail? It’s
that time of year we celebrate it
because with it the United States
expanded. Heppner was founded
and we were bom. Yes, probably
without it we would not be here
today.
What is the Oregon Trail,
might you ask? It is a long, dus
ty road that starts at In
dependence, Missouri and ends at
the Columbia River, the Snake
River and Oregon City. Many
smaller but well used trails break
off the Oregon Trail. The Barlow
Trail was used instead of loading
wagons on rafts and floating them
down the Columbia River.
So let’s remember the Oregon
Trail as part of our heritage that
it got us the homes we live in
today.
For further information about
the trail, visit the Morrow County
Museum, the Oregon Trail Inter
pretive Center in Baker City, and
the celebration in August at Cecil.

I’m getting tired of the Spotted
Owl. The spotted owl has caus
ed thousands of logging industries
to shut down.
I know that loggers over cut the
trees they shouldn’t do that. They
also shouldn’t clear cut. Clear
cuts are stupid. They should leave
those trees for the wild life.
I think that loggers should on
ly log what needs to be logged.
There must be a way for the
animals and the loggers to live in
this world together.

I think that we need to get a
new pool that’s indoor because
our old one obviously isn’t ade
quate, it will just keep on break
ing and costing more money for
the city to pay for repairs. More
people would like to have a pool
that they can have for years and
swim all year round. Then when
it’s so hot out you'll have a pool
to go swim in. A lounge with TV
and vending machine for the
parents to go in when their kids
are swimming would also be
great but that’s what I would
recommend.

I think the Trail Blazers are
really messed up. They are a
bunch of creeps. They are not
very good role models to the kids
in Oregon. They have done the
reading program for us, and then
let us down with their actions. It
is a shame to all the parents too.
They are doing things bad both
on the court and off.
Trail Blazers, ask yourself:
"Am I a good role model?" I
don’t think the answer will be
"y es" for many of the players.
So the Trail Blazers need to think
about what they did. But don’t
come crying to me or anybody
else. Right now, I don’t respect
you.

In a local Jack in the Box, a lit
tle boy of two years old died of
food poisoning. Other people
who ate there are in critical con
dition. Why? Because of
carelessness. A truck of con
taminated hamburger was ship
ped to Seattle to a Jack in the
Box. There the meat was cooked
and sold.
I think people should be more
careful. I mean when the coun
try hears about a food poisoning
at a fast food restaurant that has
always been safe, it can really
make people angry. I am also
disappointed about how they pro
cess meat. They should have a
clean area to work in. I really
hope this does not happen again.
Please be more careful when pro
cessing meat or cooking. I en
courage you to write your con
gressmen for stricter regulations.
