The lone Cardinals were click

against Heppner last Tuesday,
Jan. 12, leading 22-17 at the end
of one and 42-35 at halftime. But
the teamwork that worked so well
in the first half came undone in
the second and the Mustangs roll
ed on to a 75-62 victory.

Halvorsen and Aaron Heideman
each had nine points to lead the
Cards but Heppner's Leonard
Brittner scored 26 to take the
game scoring honors. The Cards
ended the game with a 36-32 re
bounding advantage, led by
Aaron Heideman with 13. Both
Aaron and Deacon Heideman had
three blocked shots. David
Wagenblast led the team with five
steals and eight assists.
The Cards shot 17 of 50 for 34
percent from the floor and 25 of
35 from the line for 72 percent.
Heppner was 27 of 59 for 46 per
cent from the floor and 18 of 35
for 51 percent from the line.

The Heppner Fillies remain
undefeated after this weekends
action against the Wahtonka
Eagles and Stanfield Tigers as
they soundly defeated both teams.
Fridays game saw the Eagles
get crushed on the Fillie’s home
court. 73-27. The Fillies pressure
defense saw the Eagles commit
many turnovers as Heppner built
a 23-7 lead after the first quarter
of play. The Fillies then fell into
a slump as they were outscored
13-12 in the first quarter but still
had a 15 point lead heading into
the half.
The Fillies came out of the
locker room fired up and with
solid defense and an unstoppable
offense the Eagles were outscored
23-4 in the third quarter as they
trailed by 34 going into the fourth
and final quarter of play.
Wahtonka never got on track of
fensively in the fourth quarter as
they only managed four points to
the Fillie’s 16.
Kelsie Evans led all scorers
with 22 points followed by Char
Coe with 12 and Sara Greenup
who provided 10.

better game than the previous Fri
day night's game against
Wahtonka, but the Fillies were
too much for the Tigers as they

The Mustangs handed the Stan
field Tigers an 83-55 loss last
Saturday, Jan. 16 on the Mustang
home court. The Mustang’s press
had the Tigers rocked early as it
lead to turnovers and easy points.
Heppner built an early 10 point
lead going into the second quarter
and never relinquished the lead as
they kept increasing it. The
Mustangs had a 16 point advan
tage at the half. Rick Koffler led
the Mustangs with 28 points in
cluding five three-pointers.
Heppner led by 25 after three
quarters of play. They never
looked back as they played an
outstanding game defensively to
win 83-55. The Mustangs had a
balanced attack as Austin Coiner
came off the bench to contribute
13 points. Len Brittner also add
ed 12.
The Mustangs are now 3-0 in
conference play and 6-3 overall.
The next game is this Friday, Jan.
22 at home against the Pilot Rock
Rockets and then they travel to
