present ‘18 Nervous Gumshoes’

“ 18 Nervous Gumshoes” w ill
be performed by the Heppner
High School Drama Club on Jan.
28 and 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the high
school cafetorium.
The play, written by Tim Kel
ly, is about the story of a “ Crook
ed House” , a seedy hotel where
the guests pay outrageous rent for
shoddy service. Actually, what
they're playing is blackmail. Ar
riving on the scene is that famous
Hoboken detective Hercules Por
ridge. He’s inept but funny. A
corpse is discovered in the sitting
room and a beautiful secretary is
done in by deadly orchid juice.
The guest list includes a mystery
writer Anguish Crispie. an eccen
tric young man who dresses like
a jungle explorer and a strange
actress who always dresses in
black. Colonel Chutney, a crazy
neighbor, thinks the year is 1880
and he's in India. Jeeves, the
butler, has a wandering mind.
Thrills and chills collide with
sidesplitting laughter as the case
is surprisingly solved by Detec
tive Porridge.
The actors for “ 18 Nervous
Gumshoes" are: Missy Wallace.

Frosty the snow volcano
Cameron Sweeney, 14, Hepp
ner, used mounds of white stuff
to build something a little more
creative than the usual snowman.
Cameron’s snow sculpture of a
volcano features an explosion of
icicles out of the top of the
volcano and ketchup “ lava” run
ning down the sides. He said that
sculpture took around two hours
to make.
The weather has seen little
change the past several weeks,
and more than a foot of snow has
fallen since Dec. 28, according to
the city of Heppner weather
statistics.
Area schoolchildren have miss
ed two days of school and school
was delayed two additional days
because of snow and slick roads.
Temperatures are seeing a war
ming trend this week, after highs
in the teens and 20’s and lows
hovering around two to four
degrees January 5 through 11.
