Letters to the Editor
Pet poisoners warped
To the Editor:
This letter is to the people in
Heppner vs ho are poisoning our
pets and also a warning to our
other neighbors who love and
spoil their pets the way that we
do.
On the morning of Oct. 19, I
found a hamburger patty con-
vered with strychnine in my back
yard. One of our cats had carried
it home from a close neighbors
house. Luckily our cats didn’t eat
any of it but unfortunately Rose
Marie Buschke’s cat wasn’t as
lucky and also two other cats
were very sick from other patties
like the one I found.
What scares me the most
besides losing one of our spoiled
pets is the fact that my three year
old nephew was playing in our
back yard just hours before 1
found the hamburger patty.
What if he had taken a bite out
of that patty? He would have pro
bably died from it.
I would like to know just what
you sick people are thinking
about? Have you no conscience
as to the results of your sick
revenge?
Our pets are just like our kids
and it would just break our hearts
and our children’s hearts if we
ever lost one of them.
Please, everyone help us stop
these people that are poisoning
our pets.
We know who you pet killers
are and I encourage a rebuttal to
my letter as to what is going
through your warped minds.

Don’t step backward
To the Editor:
To all my friends in Morrow
County.
1 feel that Louie will best repre
sent Morrow County from north
to south and east to west.
Let’s not take a step backwards
from where we were six years
ago.
Vote Carlson Morrow County
Judge.

Cooley deals with the issues
To the Editor:
Wes Cooley is running against
Wayne Fawbush for state senator
in district (SD28). Jobs and
economic activity in this rural
area are heavily dependent on the
profits generated from resource-
based industry. The intrusion of
government, which results in
higher taxes and more regulation,
is a cost to business, that results
in reduced profits and reduced
jobs.
The concept that government
can do everything best has
resulted in more and more cost to
comply with regulations Wayne
Fawbush is one of the legislators
who feels that state government,
rather than free enterprise, must
set the parameters, and has
resulted in his sponsoring
legislative bills that regulate and
impose fines, penalties and fees.
I feel there is a vast difference in
the way Wes Cooley would deal
with these issues as compared to
Wayne Fawbush. Your vote for
Wes Cooley will slow govern
ment intrusion into your life and
help support and increase
resource based industry.
Sincerely,
(s) Don Peterson

To the Editor:
On November 3 we will be
voting for our next county com
missioner. This will be one of our
most important local races.
We want what is best for Mor
row County and we feel Don
McElligott has more than the
necessary qualifications to be the
best choice
for county
commissioner.
As county judge he worked
with all the citizens of Morrow
County in a fair and professional
manner.
Don and Eunice have a
daughter Maureen, who is a
teacher in Boardman. They also
winter their cattle over there so
you will see Don in the
restaurants and stores throughout
the winter, always willing to
listen to your concerns.
Don McElligott is a hard work
ing, intelligent man, devoted to
family and committed to serving
all the citizens of Morrow Coun
ty. His background and ex
perience clearly make him the top
choice for the job.
We want a competent person in
office that will use our tax dollars
wisely.
Lets elect Don our next coun
ty commissioner.

Carlson has given valuable leadership
Measure 9 for a healthy future
To the Editor:
This we know. After observing
and working closely with Judge
Louie Carlson for the past six
years this we know.
1. Judge Carlson has worked
closely with a committed county
road advisory committee made up
of members representing all areas
of our county. This committee
has developed long range plans
for all of the county roads and up
dates this plan every year.
2. Judge Carlson has helped
develop a close working relation
ship between the county court and
the mayors and city managers of
the towns in our county.
3. Judge Carlson and the coun
ty court are developing a policy
(with input from the city councils
and the city managers) with
To the Editor:
Our daily lives are governed by
the myriad daily choices we
make. What we are today and
often the circumstances we find
ourselves in are the result of past
choice.
Oregon stands at a crucial point
in her history as a front runner
state and the moral standard this
state has 50 years from now will
be determined as individuals
make their choices known Nov.
3 on measure 9. Will she be a
place where families are safe or
will she be a Sodom where
veritable angels will be assaulted.
Much Bible has been quoted
and examples given both for and
against this measure 9. The one
that stands out to me is found in
Joshua 24:15 where the nation of
Israel was asked to make a choice
as to their allegiance and atten
dant lifestyle. Joshua added in
substance “ you have the choice,
you can vote for your preference
regard to the Finley Butte Land
fill income. This income is shared
with the cities and county.
4. Judge Carlson has continued
to work hard to keep good com
munications and respect between
the people and governments of
the Morrow County 1-84 corridor
and the Willow Creek valley
residents.
5. Judge Carlson has been a
highly visible and accessible
judge, always willing to give ex
tra time and energy to the task at
hand.
For these reasons we are voting
for Judge Louie Carlson, who has
given us six years of proven,
valuable leadership.
Sincerely,
(s) Bob and Suzanne Jepsen
Sorry to see Breitlings go
To the Editor:
As everyone probably knows
by now, Sherri and Arnie Breit-
ting are no longer managing the
Northwestern Motel. They left,
giving us a 30-day notice and we
were very fortunate in locating
and hiring a very nice family to
fill the position. Robert and
Josephine Hall and their 17 year-
old daughter. Monaca, are now
doing an excellent job. We are
extremely pleased with them as
managers as well as their being
fine folks.
We were also happy with the
Bruttlings and their work and
were sorry to see them go, the
reason being that we could not
give them the 50 percent salary
raise they wanted. We were
dismayed that they vacated the
position before the agreed time
and dumped the responsibility on
the Halls before we could train
them.
We also learned to our chagrin
that the Briettings were casting
dispersions in regard to our
business practices. This really
bothers us because we found
them to be honest people. They
must have become embittered
when we didn’t grant their pay
raise.
We were sorry to see them go
and wish them luck. We should
have done so in person but they
left in a hurry and left no address
or phone numbers.
We hope this letter will clear
up any doubts and misinformation
some of you may have heard.

Bush deserving of your vote
To the Editor:
The presidential debates are
now over, and the analysis of the
debates is a far cry from what
really went on. It’s fair to assume
that candidates are going to say
whatever they think will help
them get elected.
Change is the key word, and to
need change, the current govern
ment is criticized as doing a poor
job. Since news tends to be
negative, the American people
are easily convinced that the cur-
McElligott knows what it takes
To the Editor:
Since Don McElligott has been
judge of Morrow County he cer
tainly knows what a commis
sioner’s role is. He has already
made many contacts necessary
for the role. He’s honest and
sincere and would be a good
leader.

Spicer offers legal background
To the Editor:
We are supporting Ann Spicer
as Morrow County Judge. Ann is
a person who works hard, is a
leader and is committed to
fairness. Ann Spicer is a listener
first, and after hearing all of the
facts, she is a doer.
We need a person in our coun
ty judge position who has a work
ing knowledge of the law, a per
son who is equitable in all deal
ings Ann is this person since she
has been a practicing lawyer since
1977.
Ann Spicer has a background
in education. She has previously
taught mentally retarded children.
She will be fair in her dealings
with juvenile court cases.
Ann Spicer worked as the
District Attorney in Morrow
rent government is bad too.
I believe the Bush administra
tion is doing a good job. When
you accept that possibility, the
debates take on an entirely dif
ferent perspective, and the doom
and gloom that Clinton and Perot
express becomes meaningless.
Hence the winner, and deserving
of your vote, is President George
Bush.

County from 1980 to 1982. Prior
to that position, she was the city
attorney for the city of Umatilla
and worked with all city or
dinances. Ann will be fair in her
dealings with cities.
Ann has been the chairperson
for the Heppner Economic
Development Committee for
three years. Ann was also the
chairperson for Heppner Vision
2000, which resulted in grants for
economic development purposes.
Ann has a strong business sense,
as well as a stake in the future of
this county.
We feel that Ann Spicer is the
best choice for the position of
Morrow County Judge.

Packwood not workers’ friend
UfFelman an experienced leader
To the Editor:
I urge voters of District 59 to
support Steve Uffelman as our
State Representative in Salem.
My husband. Raymond, and I
highly respect Steve as a kind,
honest, and intelligent individual.
Steve is an experienced leader,
serving presently as mayor of
Prineville and has been involved
but as for me and my house, we
will serve the Lord." I cannot
make the choice for you, nor you
for me but our collective choice
will determine our state and our
nation’s choice to invite or divert
certain judgment to the nation that
forgets God and his standard
which is the only true measure.
Measure 9 has little to do with
discrimination or hatred but
rather is giving Oregon a chance
to stand up for God’s standard
and
acknowledge
the
perverseness and unnatural
aspects of homosexuality.
God as a loving heavenly
Father says, “ He is not willing
that any should perish but that all
would come to repentance.”
Measure 9 will not settle the sin
question, only Jesus can do that
but it will help Oregon shoot for
a healthy future.
Vote yes on Measure 9.

represent me. Since he’s more in
terested in representing Japanese
or Korean mill workers, I suggest
he go to them for votes. No way
does he deserve mine.
I know there are many difficult
problems facing us today.
However, when a part of the
legislative solution was blocked
by Senator Packwood, I knew he
was no friend of workers.
