a 40-0 white-washing of the
visiting Wahtonka Eagles Friday
night, Oct. 23.
The homecoming game was a
special night as the Heppner
Booster Club unveiled the new
lights and scoreboard at the Mor
row County Fairgrounds field.
The game was close through
the first 1 !/4 quarters with the
Mustangs leading only 6-0.
Heppner exploded for three
touchdowns in the last 4:04 of the
second quarter and two more in
die first six minutes of the third
quarter to put the game out of
reach.
Senior running back Kevin
Payne scored the first of his two
touchdowns with a seven yard
run. Payne gained 61 yards on the
evening on 10 carries. Kicker
Len Brittner was wide right on
the pat for a 6-0 lead.
After an exchange of punts,
Wahtonka put together a 12-play,
79 yard drive, probably the best
drive of the year against the first
team defense, only to be stopped
at the one yard line on the fourth
down.
The Mustangs drove the length
of the field but were stopped in
side the Eagle eight yard line on
downs. After forcing Wahtonka
to punt, sophomore Chris
Dickenson scored on an acrobatic
twisting 12 yard run with 4:04 re
maining in the half. Brittner add
ed the pat for a 13-0 lead.
Defensive end Tony Burt
pounced on a fumble at the Eagle
45 yard line on the next series of
downs. After a 20 yard Rick Kof-
fler to Scott Coe screen pass,
Koffler hit Coe with a six yard
slant pass for a touchdown. With
53 seconds remaining Brittner
added the pat for a 20-0 lead.
Wahtonka wouldn’t let the
clock run out and Payne in
tercepted a pass. He returned it
to the Eagle 36 yard line with on
ly 18 ticks left on the clock.

first play from scrimmage. The
pat snap was muffed as the
Mustangs led 26-0 at the break.
Both Dickenson and Payne
scored on two yard runs in the
third quarter, to make the score
40-0.
The Mustang defense record
ed their third shut out in a row.
Wahtonka could only muster 176
yards rushing and passing while
the Mustangs had 430 yards of
offense.

a sprained ankle and is ques
tionable for this week against
Weston-McEwen.

The BMCC tie dyeing class
that was to have been held in Oc
tober has been rescheduled for
Monday and Tuesday, November
2 and 3 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the
Heppner Junior High home ec
room.
Students need to bring three or
four prewashed garments such as
T-shirts, sweatshirts, or light col
ored jeans to dye. rubber bands,
rubber gloves and wooden
spoons. Cost of the class is S10
plus a $5 lab fee.
