W e can’t afford drastic m easures.
Measures 5 & 6 would each:
Immediately shut down Trojan and stop the
plan to phase out Trojan over 4 years.
The sensible phaseout plan provides the time needed to
develop new replacement power sources and avoid
power shortages that would result from an immediate
shutdown. Passage of either Measure 5 or Measure 6
would stop the widely supported 4-year Trojan phaseout
plan.
We invite you to join our committee and add
your name to the growing number of Oregonians
who have taken a stand against the drastic
shutdown of the Trojan electric plant Just fill
out the coupon below, clip it out, and send it
to us.
Immediately cut off nearly 20% of our state’s
electricity supply — causing power shortages.
The Trojan plant is Oregon’s single largest power plant,
and our region’s electricity supplies are already tight.
Measures 5 and 6 would completely cut off all of the
electricity produced by Trojan shortly after this
November’s election.
Cause about 1,000 workers at Trojan to
immediately lose their jobs and hurt Oregon’s
economy.
The existing plan for a 4-year phaseout of Trojan would
allow time for Trojan workers to be retrained and find
new jobs. But Measures 5 and 6 would cause nearly
1,000 men and women working at Trojan to be forced
out of work immediately.
Cost us about one-half billion dollars in higher
electric bills.
Measure 5 and Measure 6 would each force Oregon
utilities to immediately import high-cost power as they
struggle to prevent blackouts. Studies estimate that an
immediate shutdown would cost Oregon ratepayers about
one-half billion dollars more than the plan for an orderly
4-year phaseout of Trojan.
