To the editor:
Voters in Heppner are being
asked to approve a bond issue that
is vital to continuance of city
functions.
It would be well to note that if
we do not support our hard work
ing volunteer fire department, we
will pay for it anyway with in
creased insurance costs.
Twice in the past several years
we have almost lost our business
district to fire. Please make the
volunteers aware, by a very
positive vote, of how much we
value their many efforts.
Sincerely,
(s) John and Ann Murray

Approve city bond issue
To the editor:
RE: Bond Issue
I want to express my personal
support and urge the voters to
support the public safety bond
proposed by the City of Heppner.
The bond issue will pay for fire
and safety equipment. Our cur
rent equipment is dangerously
outmoded, and only operates at
a fraction of its stated capacity.
We have already had one major
grass fire and with the dry heat
we can anticipate more this
summer.
Please support your city and
protect yourselves. Vote yes on
the bond.
Sincerely,
(s) William J. Kuhn

In my opinion Heppner kids,
all Morrow County kids, deserve
a swimming pool. It isn’t im
possible to get. It took a lot of
dinners, pies and cake to get the
pool in lone several years ago but
we got it.
Fundraisers have been going on
to help people in time of problems
especially health problems and in
my opinion the kids are in danger
of health problems too. What are
kids expected to do when there
isn’t a theatre, swimming pool or
something for them to do?
It hurts all of us when drugs,
alcohol and cars take over.

drive I’d be glad to make a small
donation and I’d call anyone I
know in Portland that ever lived
in Morrow County and ask for a
donation. We could do it.
I didn’t get my letter mailed
and this week’s Gazette named
the third school class as sponsors.
Great. I was thrilled and enclose
a small donation.
I had a thought and tried to find
out through the chamber of com
merce who sponsors the Morrow
County picnic in Laurelhurst park
in August but they didn’t know.
Anyway my idea was to have a
jar for donations at that picnic for
the pool. If former Morrow
County people would donate just
a dollar or two it would help as
a lot of us now live in Portland.
Best of luck and I’m proud to
be from Morrow County and
willing to help if I can.
Sincerely,
