Mexican hats off
To the editor:
Our Mexican hats are off to the
city of Boardman for a great sum
mer celebration of “ Cinco De
Mayo” last Sunday.
We couldn’t count the numbers
but the success of the day was ap
parent with a park full of local
Mexican and Anglo residents en
joying themselves with dance,
food and games.
This celebration is a credit to
the leadership in Boardman in the
names of Mayor Bill Brown and
his wife Myrtle, and La Fuerza
Hispana. These key leaders plus
the multitudes of help, both
Mexican and Anglo proves that
a community can benefit by
cultural exchange of music, food,
dance and other social attributes.
It appears to us that this will be
a growing event in Boardman and
one that will be of greater value
as the need for cultural understan
ding becomes more and more im
portant in Morrow County.
Maybe, just maybe, if other
cities such as Los Angeles,
Portland and the like were to take
note of the qualities of different
ethnic backgrounds, human be
ings would be more tolerant of
one another.

To the Editor:
it is a pleasure to recommend
Jeff Wallace for your vote for
district court judge. Seldom does
a candidate have the range of ex
perience and knowledge of the
area as does Jeff Wallace. With
a farm background, an excellent
legal education, an outstanding
military experience and as an at
torney
with
a w orking
background in both private prac
tice and in the district attorney of
fice he has the tools to do a great
job as district judge.
As district attorney in Morrow
County for the past five years he
has aggressively fought the multi
ple problems caused by drugs.
Jeff Wallace has my unqualified
support for district judge.
Sincerely,
(s) Stafford Hansell

As a pillar of our community,
Mr Glenn is someone who
recognizes a problem, lays a plan
to solve it, and puts that plan in
motion. He has done much to
help our community in the 14
years since I’ve been in Board-
man. In fact, he served on the
first regional strategies in
Oregon.
After following various cam
paigns, there is definitely one of
fice with a choice you can be hap

Without district libraries close
To the Editor:
This letter is to urge you to vote
yes for the formation of the
Oregon Trail Library District. If
the cities of Heppner and Board-
man want library services this
district is a must. Without the
library district, these libraries will
close. With the library district,
they will be able to stay open for
longer hours, have more book
selection and expand program.
The state library has commit
ted $150,000 to the district, if
formed, to meet these goals The
nee for libraries has caused
citizens of Boardman and Hepp
ner to join hands and work
together to develop a library plan
meeting the needs of both com
munities. If we want to maintain
a high quality of life for ourselves
and our children, if books and
education are important, a yes
vote for the Oregon Trail Library
is a must.
Sincerely,
(s) William J. Kuhn

Yes for library district
To the Editor:
My family and I are long time
users of the Heppner Public
Library. We have observed the
reduction in book buying over the
last year due to Measure 5 restric
tions. The library in Heppner and
in Boardman are both gearing up
for summer reading programs
which involve a substantial
number of children. This will not
happen with the current city

“George has lived in Oregon for 50 years. As a businessman he has
met a payroll for 36 years. (Something his opponent has never
done.) He knows what it means to pay taxes, meet a payroll, and
make a profit in good and bad times in Oregon. That’s why we
need George as our Republican nominee for State Treasurer. He is
the only candidate with the business experience to manage
Oregon’s $20 billion dollar Trust Fund.. Join me in voting for
George on May 19th."
“George is a person of great courage and integrity. Let us hope our
children will grow up with the same values. His character is an
important reason why I support him as our next State Treasurer.
Equally important are the talents and experience he brings to
the job. George is exactly the right person. Join me in
supporting him .”

To the Editor:
For many years in the legal
profession there has been an un
written “ rule” : a lawyer does not
run against an incumbent judge.
Many lawyers have feared that to
do so would risk serious prejudice
against them and their clients for
years to come. Thus, any lawyer
interested in becoming a judge
would have to wait until a vacan
cy occurred-through retirement
for example.
It takes a great degree of
courage and principle to
challenge this practice. Rudy
Murgo is a lawyer who has
demonstrated such principle and
courage. Over the past three and
one-half years I have worked with
Mr. Murgo, I have found him
consistently to be meticulous pro
fessional and fair in his practice
of the law. He has a very broad
background of exprience in many
different areas o f the law,
both criminal and civil, as
a former deputy district attorney,
a former private attorney, and as
a city attorney. But one of Mr.
Murgo’s greatest assets is his ap
preciation for the importance of
a fair judicial process. If the pro
cess is fair, the result will
generally be fair.
I do not hesitate to voice my
support for the election of Rudy
Murgo as district court judge.
When a lawyer of Mr. Murgo’s
qualifications and character
becomes a candidate for judge,
perhaps it is a good time to pass
the baton on to a new generation.

Supports Glenn
To the Editor:
This letter is in support of Ed
Glenn for county commissioner.
I have known Mr. Glenn for
about 14 years and as a person he
is a pleasure to be friends with.
I think he’d bring a lot to the
office of commissioner. (My
father works for Union County
and I have known a few of the
commissioners there.) There is a
lot of responsibility riding on that
office and if anyone could take on
that position it is Mr. Glenn.
Too often a county official is
elected and then fades into virtual
obscurity. Mr. Glenn will not do
so. He is too concemced about in-
forming the public (hence his ‘lit-
