has
been
a
stockman/carpenter for the past
25 years and is employed with
Associated Building Contractors.
Sampson has a bachelor of
science degree from Southern
Oregon State College. He has
been a Morrow County Fair
Committee member, an Irrigon
Precinct Committeeman and a
Morrow County Democratic
Central Committee member.
Sampson is a member o f the
American Angus Association,
Oregon Pork Producers. He was
a 4-H and FFA auction buyer at
Umatilla, Milton-Freewater and
Morrow County fairs. He is
treasurer for the Eastern Oregon
Carpenter Local.

type o f leadership will make me
an excellent justice of the peace,”
said Sampson.

The annual Heppner Future
Farmers o f America banquet was
held May 4 at the Heppner High
School cafeteria.
Approximately 80 guests and
members attended. Joe Lindsay
was master o f ceremonies for the
evening.
Agriculture and proficiency
awards were given to the follow­
ing members:
Shelly A shbeck received
awards in sheep production,
poultry production and wildlife
m anagem ent. Placem ent in
agriculture processing-Scott Coe;
sheep production-Brent Wright;
beet production-Kelsie Evans;
outdoor recreation-Jason Hanna
and Kristi Winters; soil and water
conservation-John Qualls; home
and farmstead improvement-
Rondi Robinson; agricultural
mechanics-Casey O'Brien and
agriculture sales and service-
Ryan Munkers.
Members receiving scholarship
pins for having the highest grade
point average in the chapter were
Jenny Krein, Brent Wright,
Kelsie Evans, Ryan Munkers an
Dwayne Dunaway.
Receiving leadership pins for
their involvement in chapter ac­
tiv ities were C oe, Hanna,
Dunaway, Munkers and Jenni
Ashbeck.
Elected to honorary member­
ship for their outstanding support
for the FFA were Alvin and Julie
Ashbeck, Tim and Jan Coe and
Gary and Martha Munkers.
C liff Green presented the Star
Greenhand award to Kelsie
Evans, daughter of Wayne and
Sue F.vans, for her outstanding
achievements as a first year FFA
member.
Larry Mills presented the Star
Chapter Farm er to Jenni
Ashbeck. This award is given to
the member who has given
outstanding effort and had the
greatest achievement the past year
as an advanced FFA member.
Her parents are Alvin and Julie
Ashbeck.

Concluding the evening was
guest speaker M ayor Jo e
McLaughlin from Pendleton.
McLaughlin reflected on the time
that he went through the Hepp­
ner FFA program in the early
‘4 0 ’s. He said this experience
gave him self-confidence that
would help him later in life. He
challenged the members to set
goals and told them not to be
afraid to go the extra mile.

Kylie M arie Sieler-a daughter
Kylie Marie was bom March 25,
1992 to Shelly Sieler of Heppner
at St. Anthony’s Hospital in
Pendleton. The baby weighed 5
lbs. 14 oz.
Grandparents are George and
Myma Sieler, Heppner.
Javier Martinez, Jr.-a son Javier
was bom May 2, 1992 to Maria
Andrade o f Boardman at Good
Shepherd Community Hospital in
Hermiston. The baby weighed <>
lbs. 6 oz.
