Elect Wallace
Wallace has sound judgment
To the Editor:
We have an opportunity to elect
an excellent district court judge
in the May primary. I am referr
ing to Jeff Wallace, who is the
M orrow
County
D istrict
Attorney.
Jeff has tried all kinds of cases,
both criminal and civil. He is a
person of good character and
sound judgment. I feel that Jeff
Wallace, because of his farming
background, knows the issues
that are important to Umatilla and
Morrow Counties. He has lived
in the area all his life, and is a
former state FFA officer.
Jeff is not only a good lawyer,
he is a good person as well.
Please join me in voting for Jeff
Wallace for Umatilla-Morrow
County District Court Judge,
Position 2.
Sincerely,

Glenn for commissioner
To the Editor:
Ed Glenn works hard to dig out
the facts and then gives thoughtful
insight to important issues. He
will continue to do so as Morrow
County Commissioner.
While Ed likes to promote
thorough discussion of many pro
blems, his real desire is to bring
us together in a unified manner.
Ed will be a very cohesive force
in Morrow County, a quality we
all need.
I support Ed Glenn for Morrow
County Commissioner. He will
work hard to give us all effective
representation.

Retain Peter Fels
To the Editor:
I encourage Umatilla and Mor
row County voters to retain Judge
Peter Fels as district court judge
in department 2. The extent and
variety of Judge Fels’ legal ex
periences in Eastern Oregon
courts have enabled him to
develop the necessary skills for
judicial practice. As our present
district court judte, he has
demonstrated his ability to
preside over district court cases
with both fairness and efficiency.
I know that Judge Fels has per
sonal integrity and sound moral
standards. These are qualities that
I value in a judge for our
community.
Allow Judge Fels to continue
his competent service as our
District Court Judge in Depart
ment 2. Join me in voting for
Judge Peter Fels on May 19.
Sincerely,

Sullens understands issues
To the Editor:
This brief letter is submitted to
show my sincere support for a
candidate running in our district
for the Oregon House o f
Representatives, Will Sullens.
I have known Will Sullens for
many years. 1 have worked with
Will on several issues ranging
from LCDC and land use plann
ing, to the current problems
associated with the state’s attempt
to confiscate our water rights.
The issues are complex and have
a direct impact on all citizens in
rural Oregon.
Most importantly is that Will
understands the issues, and he
listens. His concern and convic
tions for the well being of our
rural environment, and his
posture on private property rights
is what drives my support for
him.
In this day of political rhetoric,
I am sick and tired of unfulfilled
promises, and the ineffectiveness
of the people we send to Salem.
If you have observed our
legislature recently, it has per
formed pitifully. This state is in
trouble; we need people with
strong leadership ability. For the
first time in many years, I am ex
cited about the opportunity we
have to send someone like Will
Sullens to the legislature. He will
be accountable; all areas of this
vast district will be served. Will
is a good man who we can count
on to defend our interests in rural
Oregon.
Please take a moment and
analyze the candidates. When you
do, I hope you find as I have,
there is only one clear choice to
represent all of us in Salem and
that is Will Sullens. I encourage
you to register your support for
him on May 19.
Sincerely,
(s) Greg Sackos

Has respect for Glenn
To the Editor:
I am writing in support of Ed
Glenn and his candidacy for
county commissioner in the up
coming primary election. I have
a great deal of respect for Ed and
know him to be an honest man,
a fearless advocate and a good
friend.
I have only known Ed for a
short time compared to many in
this community but have found
him to be impeccably honest. I
have seen him on several occa
sions relinquish what was
rightfully his when due to the too
im passioned work o f an
employee, he felt he might be
perceived as having taken advan
tage of someone. Ed does not
want to be successful at the ex
pense of others.
As many people know, Ed is
not afraid to take a stand on an
issue he believes in. When Ed
takes a stand he believes that he
is right and receives his assurance
from this belief. What many peo
ple don’t know, however, is the
degree to which Ed respects the
opinions of others.
Ed and I disagree on many
issues from taxes to politics to
fishing methods. While in these
disagreements we seldom com
promise, I have never, and I do
mean never, known a man who
showed more respect for my opi
nions, .whether contrary to his or
not.
Ed is a good friend. He is con
stant, considerate, fair and loyal.
Any politician showing these
qualities is a rare find indeed and
worthy of your consideration.
I encourage you to support Ed
Glenn for county commissioner
in the upcoming primary election.

To the Editor:
I have been acquainted with
Jeff Wallace since he first got out
of law school and came to
Pendleton to practice law in 1976.
I have always felt that his
temperament and legal abilities
would make him an outstanding
judge.
Jeff is a candidate for the
M orrow -U m atilla
County
District Court Judge Position 2 in
the May primary. I feel that he
is the best candidate for the job
and urge everyone to vote for
Methodist women to honor grad
him.
Jeff is from Umatilla County
but now lives in Morrow Coun
ty as the district attorney there.
I have lived in both counties and
know that it’s important for Mor
row County to have representa
tion in our courts as well as
Umatilla County.
Jeff Wallace will serve the
cause of justice well. Please elect
him as our next district judge for
position 2.
Sincerely,

Library district a good deal
To the Editor:
The Oregon Trail Library
District is a good deal for us. If
it is approved, it will result in all
city and rural library users pay
ing for the services they receive.
Formation of the district will
cause utilities and industry to pay
the bill for about two thirds of the
cost of operating the libraries,
libraries that are used by the
employees of these businesses.
The estimate of $10 per
household living in a $40,000
home in the proposed library
district seems like a pretty
reasonable cost. For this we will
get all the present services plus
some needed improvements in
our library offerings.
We’re in favor of forming and
funding the Oregon Trail Library
District and we’re going to vote
in favor of it.

CHANGE
Initiative would jeopardize city
To the Editor:
Soon many of you will be ask
ed to sign an initiative petition
started by Tom LaRusso of Bend,
Oregon. The petition, if enough
signatures are obtained, would
place a measure on the ballot pro
hibiting the city of Heppner from
raising new taxes or increasing
the taxes now existing. While this
measure sounds inviting and you
may think, what's the harm of
putting the question to the voters,
be aware of the following:
1. The city may be forced to
reduce services even futher than
has been required under Measure
5.
2. The initiative may prevent
the city from generating sufficient
revenues to meet expenses
because it does not define the
term taxes.
Heppner has just suffered the
worst budget cutbacks it has ever
seen. The police force is at the
lowest manpower it has been in

nuing police and fire protection
rests with the voters on an up
