on Thursday evening, Jan. 16, for
their regular meeting with the NG

Newly elected officers for 1992
are: Kathy Tellechea, NG; Leila
Palmer, VG; Delpha Jones,
secretary; V irginia Peck,
treasurer. DDP Hilda Yocom did
the installation. The lodge
presented the NG and the DDP
with gifts. Following the installa-
tion of officers the appointed of-
ficers were installed: Hilda
Yocom, warden; Kathy Clark,
conductor; Luella T ay lo r,
chaplain; Frances Murty ISG;
Annetta Padberg, RSNG; Geri
Martin, LSNG; Joyce Buchanan,
RSVG. The group discussed the
committee appointments for 1992
and the next two card parties,
which will be Feb 1 and March
7, both beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Refreshments were served joint-
ly with the Oddfellows.

Thursday evening. Those install-
ed were Bob Taylor, NG; Ed
M urty, VD; Joe Y ocom ,
secretary; and Cecil Jones,

card party sponsored by the Lex-
ington Oddfellow lodge was well

25 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lexington
Grange Hall. An interesting pro-
gram is planned with a cake walk

dinner.

highlights on house bill 3565.
This is a long term plan for
Oregon schools from now until
the year 2010. Head Start will be
available for every eligible child
by 1998. Curriculum goals,
essential learning skills and lear
ning outcomes will be redesign
ed. The school year will be ex
tended to 185 days by 19% and
220 days by the year 2010. A
short business meeting was held
conducted by the Master Joe
Yocom.
Fillies keep top spot of CBC conference

The Heppner Fillies stepped up
their level of play to sit at the top
of the CBC conference and it
showed as they thrashed two
more teams this last weekend.
Pilot Rock was the first victim
as they came to town Friday, Jan.
17 for an important league game.
The Fillies won 65-27 as they
held Pilot Rock’s top scorer to six
points. Heppner came out fast
and jumped to an early eight point
lead. The lead had increased at
Heppner Elementary collect
Campbell soup labels
Campbell’s Soup Labels are
being collected for Heppner
Elementary/Middle School to ob
tain free, educational equipment.
In year s past, a telescope, bat
ting tee, slates, microscopes and
other needed equipment have
been obtained with the labels.
The community’s support is
needed to keep this program suc
cessful. Labels may be dropped
off at Court Street Market, or at
the school. The program runs un
til March 1, 1992, but labels are
accepted year round.
Hearing set
on homeless
Moyer elected

A public hearing will be held
on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. at
the Morrow County Extension
office to receive input on the
needs of the homeless in Mor
row, Gilliam, Umatilla and
Wheeler counties. The informa
tion received will be used in for
mulating a plan for the distribu
tion of state Emergency Housing
funds
to
help
prevent
homelessness and respond to
homeless people in the area.
Meetings will be scheduled in
Hermiston and Pendleton. The
Community Action Program of
East Central Oregon (CAPECO)
is sponsoring the hearings. Writ
ten comments will also be ac
cepted. For more information,

ed back and kept increasing their
lead. The Fillies shot an awesome
55 percent from the field and held
the Rockets to 16 percent. Holly
Eckman pulled down 10 rebounds
and dished out seven assists. The
Fillies outscored the Rockets 23-5
in the fourth quarter and went on
for the win, 65-27. Heather
Eckman led the Fillies behind
Johnston with 10 points.
The Fillies then traveled to
Stanfield Saturday and continued
to roll towards the top spot in the
CBC conference beating the
Tigers 59-24. Again led by
sophom ore sensation Jodi
Johnston, the Fillies went into the
second quarter with a 10 point
lead. The Fillies increased that
lead by outscoring the Tigers
17-4 in the second period of play.
The scoring was spread with 10
Fillies scoring. The Tigers kept
up with Heppner in the third
quarter but still saw themselves
trailing by 23 going into the
fourth quarter. Head coach Mark
Dowdy brought out his reserves
but the Fillies still continued the
slaughter with a 14-2 margin in
the fourth quarter to bring the
final score to 59-24.
Jodi Johnston led all scorers
with 14 followed by Heather and
Holly Eckman with 10 points
each and Becky Norton with
seven.
The Fillies are in first place in
the CBC conference by a half
game over power house Weston-
McEwen. The Fillies travel to
Wasco County Saturday, Jan. 25.

Arts club
Morrow County Arts and
Crafts club elected Mary Ella
Moyer president at their Dec.
meeting. Other officers elected
were Alma Green, secretary; and
Barbara Ansotegui, treasurer.
The next meeting will be held
Monday, Jan. 27 at 1 p.m at
Kates Pizza. Members who wish
to paint the club’s logo on a T-
shirt or sweat shirt should bring
their garment and any fabric paint
at this meeting. The fabric of the
garment should be a cotton blend
and should be washed prior to
painting. Do not use fabric
softener or drying sheets when
washing garment. Shirts and
fabric paint are available locally,
said a club spokesperson.
