Myrtle Huwe
Funeral services were held
November 15 in the chapel at Bums
Mortuary. Hermiston for Myrtle
Huwe of Irrigon. Burial was at
Desert Lawn Memorial Cemetery in
Irrigon.
Mrs. Huwe. 87, died Monday,
Nov. 11, 1991 at St Anthony
Hospital in Pendleton
She was born July 15. 1904, at
Kermit, N.D , and was a longtime
Irrigon resident.
She taught school for many years
Survivors include a son. Wayne,
of Irrigon; daughters Yvonne
Ehenger of Klamath Falls, Dorla
Wicst of Corvallis, Wanda Olson of
Ecfo and Lvnn Rothe >f Troutdale;
sisters Willita Tweed of Salem. Ruth
Smith of Tigard and Clare Melby
of Northridge, CA ; 13 grand
children and 12 great-grandchildren
Her husband Milton died in 1976.

Charles J. Burroughs
Graveside funeral services were
held for Charles John Burroughs on
Friday. November 15 at the Condon
Cemetery.
Mr. Burroughs. 73, Boardman,
died Tuesday. Nov. 12, 1991 at his
home.
He was bom Nov. 20. 1917 at
Condon and had lived at Prosser,
WA. for 17 years and at Prineville
for a time before moving to Board-
man a year ago.
He served with the U S. Army
Military Police during World War
II.
Survivors include his wife,
Marcella at the home; daughter Cin-
day Wilhelm in Texas; sister Alma
Burroughs of Condon and three
grandchildren.
Bums Mortuary. Hermiston was
in charge of arrangements.
Herbert E. Bensch
Memorial services were held
November 14 in Gleed. WA. for
Herbert E. Bensch.
Mr. Bensch, 76, of Irrigon, died
Sunday, Nov. 10, 1991.
He was born March 14, 1915 at
Mona, Mont, to Rudolph and Myr
tle Bensch. He brew up in Mona and
attended school there.
Mr Bensch spent the majority of
his life as an iron-worker and
welder. He gained a reputation
among his fellow workers as a con
scientious and diligent worker and
flawless welder.
Survivors include a brother
Clarence of Salem; a sister Irma Ly-
day of Tucson, Ariz.; seven sons,
Jonathan, Joseph and Michael, all of
Yakima, WA. Stephen, Timothy,
Andrew and Mark, all of the Seattle-
Everett. WA. area; three daughters,
Susanna of Everett. WA; Rebekah
Hayes of Bothel. WA and Mary of
Yakima; many grandchildren and
three great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by two brothers

M arine Pfc. Ryon B. Johnson,
son of Gerald Johnson of Irrigon
recently completed the Aviation
Electrician’s Mate Course.
During the course, at the Naval
Air Technical Training Center,
Naval Air Station Memphis, Mill
ington, TN, students receive in
troductory instruction required to
perform scheduled maintenance on
naval aircraft including electrical,
electronic instrument systems and
specialized training on electrical and
electronic instrument systems.
Johnson, a 1990 graduate of
Riverside High School, joined the
Marine Corps in April 1991.
Lois M. Johnston
Lois M Johnston, 62, of Hepp-
ner, died Saturday, November 16.
1991 at Pioneer Memorial Nursing
Home in Heppner.
Recitation of the Rosary was held
at St. Patrick Catholic Church in
Heppner November 18. Funeral
Mass vtas held Tuesday, November
19 at the church with burial at the
Heppner Masonic Cemetery.
Mrs. Johnston was bom Sept. 9,
1929. at Heppner to Arthur and Isora
Wilkerson Vance. She grew up in
Heppner and attended local schools.
On July 8, 1947, she married
James B Johnston, at Lewiston, ID
She was a member of the St.
Patrick Catholic Church in Heppner
Survivors include her husband at
the home; daughters Pamela Partlow
of Boardman and Jennifer Morrell of
Hermiston; sons Rick and Greg both
of Heppner; sisters Beth Bryant of
Heppner and Birdine Tullis of lone;
eight grandchildren and two great
grandchildren A brother Arthur
Vance died earlier.

Lodge No. 66 on Wednesday,
November 20 at 6:30 p.m.
A meeting will follow.
The Lexington Garden Bugs met
for their regular monthly meeting
November 5 at the home of Phyllis
Anderson. Present were chairman
Annetta Padberg, Kathy Tellechea,
Frances Murty and Lois Allyn.
Plans were made to decorate
Friendship Park for Christmas. Lex
ington residents are also reminded of
the Christmas lighting contest.

November 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the
Heppner grade school multi-purpose
room in Heppner. JayCees is a com
munity service organization for men
and women.
Grange installation planned Nov. 23

held at the Willows Grange Hall on
Saturday, November 23, starting
with a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m.
and installation at 7 :30 p.m.

Blazing Adventurers

There’s a new 4-H outdoor club
in town and it’s off to a blazing start.
The Blazing Adventurers held their
organizational meeting Tuesday.
Nov. 12 at Kate’s Pizza. The follow
ing officers were elected: Cimmie
Huth. president: Kristina Grant, vice
president; Amber Rollis, secretary-
treasurer; Andrea Miles, reporter
and Levi Geer, sargent-of-arms. The
next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Nov.
26 at Kates.
Clever Crafters

On Friday, November 15, the
Clever Crafters met and chose of
ficers. President is Suzy Heideman:
vice president-K ristina Grant;
secretary-treasurer and reporter-
Dawn Boor. The club made suckers
during their meeting.
On Nov. 20 the club will make
mini stuffed animals.
The Morrow County Creative
Arts and Crafts group has changed
their meeting times from evenings to
afternoons during the winter months.
The club regularly meets the
fourth Tuesday of each month.
The next meeting will be Tuesday,
November 26 at 1 p.m. at Kates
Pizza.

'Senior Center
Bulletin Board
One hundred four people attended the senior dinner on November 13 with
one dinner being taken out. There were three visitors, two of which were
brothers of Merna Toll. Members of the Methodist Church served. The
meal ticket went to Don Haugen and Irene Schroeder won the door prize.
The menu for the birthday dinner November 27 will be beef stroganoff
with noodles, beans, tossed salad with carrots and French bread, cake and
ice cream. Members of the Lutheran church will serve.
Ed Hunt. Beulah Ogletree and Ruth Nutting have been host and hostesses
for November. Volunteers are needed to host the December dinners. Din
ners are only served on Wednesdays. Please contact Harriet Batty if you
would like to be a host or hostess.
Thursday evening, Nov. 14. Mrs. Calvert, a teacher at the Heppner
Elementary school, met with Irene Schroeder. Bernice Nash. Florence Holt,
Velma Wight and Barbara Struthers in the recreation room. These ladies
had volunteered to help with the school carnival Nov. 23.
Friday evening Florence Holt and Bernice Nash hosted a Home Interior
party in the rec. room.
Sunday Helen currin was honored on her 80th birthday with a party given
by her family at the senior center.
Thursday. Nov. 21, ECOAC board meeting will be held in the multi
purpose room. Call 676-9061 for information.
The housing authority meeting is November 25 at 7 p.m. Quilting is held
on Mondays from 1 to 4 p.m. and exercise is Tuesdays and Thursdays
10-10:30 a m.
Sandra Van Liew will begin a four week knitting class starting Monday,
Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. in the sitting room.
The office will be closed Thanksgiving Day, November 28.

Phyllis Anderson presented a pro
gram on ’’Dried Flowers.” “ It is
rather easy to do,” she said, “ and
is a way of enjoying flowers all
y e a r.” Many flow ers lend
themselves to drying, especially
those with a rather woody stem such
as chrysanthemums.
