Pet show open to kids under 12 Rodeo promises fun and excitement
may show one pet. Dogs must be on
a leash and easily frightened animals
should be brought in cages.
All participants should be at the
picnic area next to the dorm building
promptly at 1:30 p.m. to register.
Pam Piper and Cindy Kennedy are
superintendents for this event.
Kids are invited to show off that
prized pet once again this year at the
Morrow County Fair's children’s pet
show Wednesday, August 14 at 1:30
p.m. at the fairgrounds near the 4-H
Snack Shack.
The parade of pets is open to
children under 12 years old. Kids

Jay Howard of Sacramento, Ca.,
will be announcing the rodeo for his
first time in Heppner.
Along with Howard Joe Sanford
from Kennewick, WA. is the retur­
ning clown with the help of bull
fighter Bruce Kimsey. This will
allow Joe to concentrate more on his
humorous acts and work with the
announcer.

Rodeo fans can look forward to
more changes in this year’s Oregon
Trail Pro Rodeo, held in conjunction
with the Morrow County Fair Aug.
16, 17 and 18.

Improved stock should attract even
more contestants than the 238 who
were in Heppner last year, including
10 present and past world
champions.
Last year’s seven sponsors will
again give $1.000 each, which will
be added to the prize money in each
event to bring the total purse to over
$20,000. The sponsors are Morrow
County Grain Growers, Anderson
Seed Company, Miller Wheat. Les
Schwab Tire. Graybeel Distributing,
Coca Cola Bottling and Tidewater
Barge. Kinzua Corp, will again give
a saddle to the Morrow County Calf
Roping champion.
New this year will be a saddle
given by Gardner’s Men's Wear and
RoeMarks awarded to the PRCA all
around champion. The saddle is
made by Boyer Saddlery, Her­
miston. Also new will be Steer Rop­
ing with $500 prize added by Red's
Clothing, Pendleton. The Mike Cur­
rin Memorial Buckle will be given
to the PRCA champion calf roper.
The rodeo will be included in the
Wrangler Circuit Series with a ticket
to the rodeo free with the purchase
of Wrangler Jeans at participating
retailers.
The Morrow County night will be
Friday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. with slack
at 4 p.m. Admission Friday will be
$3. Children eight and under are
free. Admission to the fair is $1.
The PRCA shows begin at 1 30
p.m. Saturday and Sunday Admis­
sion for these two shows will be $5.

To date, there are 263 members
are enrolled in the 4-H Youth
Development Project; 160 Home
Economics and Expressive Arts pro­

jects, 200 livestock and horse pro­
jects, 19 Cultural Heritage and
Games, and 22 Aerospace and Wood
Science projects. Horticulture,
Natural Resources and Small Animal
projects have increased total project
enrollments to 401. 4-H project
members enrolled by June 1, 1991
are able to participate in county fair
4-H events and contests. There will
be lots of 4-H projects to view at the
1991 Morrow County Fair.
