Fair and Rodeo Court attends Fort Dalles Rodeo
The 199! Morrow County Fair
and Oregon Trail Pro Rodeo Court
represented the county last weekend
at the Fort Dalles Rodeo Parade at
The Dalles. The parade is one of the
longer parades that the court attends
and the Morrow County Court was
well received in The Dalles, said a
spokesperson. Queen Katrina Ord-
way's chaperones arranged for
Queen Jodee Ashbeck to ride in a red
convertible donated by Ray
Schultens Ford, as Jodee is still
recovering from injuries sustained in
an auto accident a couple of weeks
ago.
After the parade, the court and
their families were entertained with
a barbecue at the Earl Ayres home
at The Dalles. The Ayres are Jodee
and Jenni Ashbeck’s grandparents.
After the barbecue, the court attend
ed the grand entry at the rodeo.
There were approximately 12 other
courts present for the event.
On Wednesday, July 17, the Mor
row County Court, the Pendleton
Round-Up Court and the Happy Ca
nyon Princesses were guests at a lun
cheon given in their honor at the
Pendleton Country Club. The courts
had a great time visiting about court
activities and upcoming events. The
court members were each presented
with silver earrings. Hostesses for
the event were: Pat Bacon, Norma
Ashbeck, Doris Doherty, Janell
Hasenbank, Julie Ashbeck, Shelly

Hermiston tied the game and rallied
in the seventh inning for a 6-2 win.

A profusion of multi-colored milk
jugs has invaded Heppner.
Area homeowners are lining up
milk jugs filled with brightly-colored
water along the edges of their lawns
and gardens. The jugs stand like lit
tle sentinels against interloping dogs
and their doggie doo.
Rita Bowman of Heppner says that
the colored jugs do work. She says
that since they put the jugs on the
edge of their lawn, they’ve had much
less of a problem. She says that even
their son, Ron, noticed when he
mowed the lawn for them. “ They
say that dogs are color blind,” says
Rita, “ but it seems to work. We look
like a bunch of Oakies, though."
Rita said that she got the idea from
Cheryl and Bob Ployhar who live on
Court St. Cheryl says, “ Oh, yes, it
works. Every once in a while there’s
some dog stuff in our yard, but very
seldom anymore." Cheryl said that
they got the idea after a trip to the
coast where they had the colored
jugs ‘ ’everywhere’' to keep the dogs
away.
H eppner v eterin arian , Jim
Norene, also has jugs around his
yard. “ I’d like to think so (that it
works), but they're not working
h e re .”
N orene
said
that
“ theoretically’’ dogs are color blind.
“ They don’t have the right rods and
cones (in the eye), but I don’t think
it’s been proven.”
