To the Editor:
I'd like to take this opportunity to
thank the people of Morrow County

Many of you called my office or
wrote to me with your individual

more than you know. Knowing your
thoughts and concerns helps me to

Summer Means
Male Bonding
Summer means a lot of different
things to different people. At our
house, it means a little more male
bonding.
This week Francie is off to summer
school. Like lots of other top notch
teachers do every summer. It’s called
vacation, but anyone who lives with a
teacher knows better. I’ve only found
three of the four little love notes she
left for me but I’m not worried, there
are several more days yet. One was on
the pillow where I sleep. I’m proud to
j n g g
f g
say I found that one the very first night.

One year I didn’t-never do that again.
L

'
Daughter Laurel is off to business
who lives with a student knows that summer is not a vacation, only a time
for a different school in a different place, learning different things. She
did up the dishes before she left. She counted the glasses and said Harold
and I could drink out of only two glasses per day. We had to get some
paper cups at the store.
So son Harold and I have been home ‘‘batchin.” We had planned to
barbecue some hamburgers for supper the first night. But he read the movie
bill and gosh, it looked like a good show was on. We talked about the
movie until it was too late to barbecue and still go to the movie, if we
decided to go.
Which we did, so we had to have supper in town too.
That way we’d only have to wash glasses. If the paper cups don’t hold
out that is.
The second day, Harold had to work at his job and I had a hurry up
job of my own. We didn’t have time to fix lunch, so we got a quick bite
in town.
He wants to go to a comic book shop in Pendleton this afternoon and
I want to buy that old Studebaker I saw in Hermiston, maybe we’ll go
together. We’ll save gas and wear and tear on one of the rigs that way.
But we’ll be late getting back and I have to go to a meeting tonight. There
won’t be time to barbecue tonight. Maybe we’ll have to eat in town again
tonight.
Say, I’ll bet Francie left that last note with the hamburger. I’ll be sure
to look before the week’s out.
What with the women out of the house this week, it’s going to be a great
chance for Harold and I to do some of that male bonding. We have to
learn how to forge for ourselves. Batchin' is great for men gettin’ to know
what it it’s like to get along without the women.
Harold says he’s been wanting to buy some new socks, in fact, he threw
away a bunch with big holes in them right after the girls left on Sunday.
He says that will keep us from having to wash a bunch of clothes before
mom gets home.
I noticed just now that the ice cube trays are about empty. It will be
good training for number one son to keep that job up. I’ll talk to him on
the way to town. Maybe I can get him to make some sun tea in the morn
ing. I haven’t used a one of those glasses this afternoon since we don’t
have any iced tea.
Let’s see. I’ve got a meeting tonight, an appointment for lunch tomor
row and Chamber on Thursday, with a little planning, we can keep the
kitchen as neat and clean as when Francie left. She’ll think we cleaned
it up before she got home, and we’ll all be happy about that.
Harold’s learning quick too. He didn’t get any potato chips when he
went to the store. Said if he got chips, someone would have to pick up
the empty bag or mom would be mad. I guess we can go without potato
chips for one week.
We’ll both be happy to see the two of them come home this weekend.
The house seems so quiet without them and the apron on the hook seems
so empty.
