Tis true that come rain, snow,
sleet, hail or even sunshine St.
Patrick’s weekend is upon us. It
always seems that some leprechaun
made time to go a bit faster than
usual and we all have much unfinish
ed business, but it happens anyway.
We have some terrific volunteers
hard at work again.
I’m told parade entries are com
ing in daily, with the Pendleton
Round-Up Court participating. Mor
row County’s own redheaded, green
eyed queen. Jennifer Currin with
Irish ancestors likely had something
to do with this.
Don’t miss the auction this year.
There are some great items: a
Tidewater Barge trip; two nights at
Kah Nee Ta Lodge; a stemwheeler
cruise; lunch at Cousins Restaurant
in The Dalles; some antiques; Jim
Farley’s baked beans; breakfast in
bed for two; gourmet dinner for
four; Irish windsocks and much
more to suit everyone’s fancy. Many
thanks to the donors.
Our 15 visitors from County Cork
Ireland are now in Portland and will
arrive in Heppner on Thursday.
Ladies and gents and lads and lassies
of all ages are encouraged to come
to the grade school multipurpose
room at 7 p.m Thursday to learn set
and step dancing from the Irish
dancers. Then, be sure to attend their
concert Friday night at 7:15 p.m. at
the Junior High gym. This will in
clude singing, dancing and Tim Joe
Riordan’s Band. If you can’t contain
your enthusiasm, there will probably
be an opportunity to kick off your
shoes and dance at the conclusion.
I’m told they play all kinds of music.
It will be great to experience another
culture, and we want to give them
a real Morrow County welcome.
Maybe they’ll come again next year
and stay through Saturday.
“ Heppnerites” are hard at work
for St. Patrick’s weekend...I hope
there’s a minute for a ‘wee bit of fun
for each and every one . ’ If you know
where there’s a green straight jacket
for the mother of the bride, you
might drop it off at the Chamber
office.
“ May good luck be with you
wherever you go. and your blessings
outnumber the shamrocks that
grow.’’
