Call to 911 averts
tragedy in Heppner

County SherifFs dispatcher De’Ann
Reid with an “ excellent job” in
averting tragedy early Sunday
morning.
According to the sheriffs report,
the department received a 911 call
at 3:18 a.m. Sunday. No one was on
the line, but the dispatcher could
hear loud noises and a disturbance in
the background. She quickly put a
trace on the call, located the scene
and dispatched an officer to the
Evergreen Apartments. Denton said
that the trace took approximately 10
minutes. Sheriffs Deputy Terry
Harper responded to the scene,
discovered Wesley R. Bolin, 30, of
Heppner, threatening a woman. Ac
cording to Denton, when Harper
tried to place Bolin under arrest,
Bolin resisted, attempted to hit the
deputy with a hammer and choke
him. The woman again called the
Sheriffs office, requesting help for
the officer.

and, after a struggle, were able to
place Bolin under arrest. Bolin was
charged with assault IV, attempted
assault I, assault on a public safety
officer, resisting arrest and two
counts of menacing. Bolin was lodg
ed at Benton County Jail. Deputy
Harper suffered bruises on his neck.
Denton said that the woman told
the sheriffs department that Bolin
had beaten her after the two had left
a local tavern. The couple returned
to the Evergreen Apartments and
bolin, intoxicated, had beaten her
again, threatened to cut her and
“ gouge out her eyes,” according to
Denton. He said that the woman,
fearful for her life, called the police,
but said she was unable to speak to
them over the phone, hoping that the
sheriffs department would be able
to trace the call.
