lone community pep band turns out

The lone Community Pep Band
was out in full force once again last
weekend at the two home games.
The band, which was organized last
year to help the junior high band pro
vided spirited tunes at basketball
games, is composed of about a dozen

upon graduation from the U.S. Ar
my's air assault school at Schofield
Barracks, Hawaii. Trainees learned
to rapidly and safely exit from a
variety of difficult situations,
whether descending into tree tops or
lowering themselves or injured
soldiers down sheer drops.
He is the son o f R ichard
F uerstenberg, U m atilla and
Margaret Jones of Lexington.
The private is a 1984 graduate of
Umatilla High School.
Pvt S(jefredo Flores J r. has com
pleted basic training at Fort Leonard
Wood, Mo.
During the training, students
received instruction in drill and
ceremonies, weapons, map reading,
tactics, military courtesy, military
justice, first aid, and Army history
and traditions.
Flores is the son of Angelica and
Sijefredo Flores of Irrigon.
He is a 1990 graduate of Riverside
High School, Boardman.

lone alums and townspeople. Some
played in college bands while others
had not played since high school or
even junior high.
The band practices on Monday
evenings from 7:30 to 8:30 under the
direction of lone music teacher,
Geneva Mathews. They play only at
the home games during the regular
season but gladly hit the road if
either Cardinal team progresses in
to post-season action.
Mrs Mathews says that the band
is made up o f a “ bunch of
characters” and encourages anyone
who is feeling the least bit musical
to join, especially if they play an up
per woodwind (flute or clarinet) or
lower brass (trombone) instrument.
“ We have a lot of fun,” she says.
