A resolution committee oif Barton
Clark, Mildred Wright, Kenneth
Smouse and Jean Nelson were ap
pointed to write a resolution against
any pay raise for the U.S. con
gressmen. This was written and
passed, and will be sent to con
gressman, Pomona Granges and the
state master.
There was much discussion on in
creasing attendance at meetings. A
contest is planned with the winners
being the grange with the most at
tendance at Pomona meetings for the
year 1991.
Archie Bechdolt gave a reading
‘The House Where I Was Bom,’
which he said he learned many years
ago. Delpha Jones gave a reading
‘Sound Familiar’. The correct way
to ballot was demonstrated with
Margerat Akers in charge and
Delpha acting as the reader. This
was most educational.
The degree work was discussed at
some length and a motion was made
and passed that the degree given as
follows, 1-2 degrees by Willows.

degree by Lexington. These to be
done once a year.

Heppner Chamber of Commerce
welcomes all interested parents and
organization members to join them
Tuesday, November 20, for their
noon luncheon at the Elks. They will
be hosting a panel promoting the
PACT (Parents & Adolescents Can
Talk) communication program.
Panel members will include local
health professionals, educators,
counselors, concerned parents and
Father George Izzett from All Saints
Episcopal Church.
The PACT program, sponsored
by the Oregon State University Ex
tension. will be a seven-week series
targeted toward adolescents and
parents of 7th, 8th and 9th graders.
Specific ways that community
organizations can support the series
will be presented during Tuesday’s
presentation. Evaluations of
previous programs in Oregon and
Montana resulted in increased self
esteem and decision making ability
on the part of the adolescent, in
creased parent-adolescent com
munication, and increased con
fidence in parenting roles, said a
spokesperson.
“ Our youth are the future leaders
of our communities. Increasing com
munication and cooperation within
all areas of our community is one of
the goals of Heppner Chamber and
we look forward to sharing in the in
troduction of this worthwhile pro
gram ,” says chamber manager
Claudia Hughes.

Wheatland Pomona Grange met
Sat. Oct. 27 at the Lexington Grange
Hall for the regular meeting with
Master William Alford in the chair.
All officers were present but two.
The masters recognized at this
time were William Alford of Green
field Grange. Joe Yocom of Lex
ington and Willard French of
Willows.
Officers reports were given. Lex
ington had a recognition day with the
presentation of Golden Sheath cer
tificates and pins, seals for 55 and
60 year memberships and 25 year
certificates and pins.
Severla interesting things were
given for the agriculture report.
Agriculture people were advised to
talk up agriculture to the non
agriculture people, to perhaps help
them know where their food is com
ing from. Also, a bit of information
when the constitution was signed 90
percent of the population was involv
ed in farming, but only two percent
today. Eighty-two percent are fami
ly farms today.
Barton Clark gave a few words on
the cattlemen and their problems of
today such as feeding, prices, etc.
The legislative committee urged
everyone to study the voters pam
phlets and vote as it is one of our
country’s greatest privileges. It was
learned that the government is urg
ing farmers to try other crops on
