To the Editor:
For my husband and other sport
smen, a candidate’s position on
issues of gun control is one of the
key areas on which we base our
votes. Barbara Roberts came from a
hunting family and supports the
sportsman’s right to own and use
guns in pursuit of their outdoor
quarry. Barbara also supports the
need and rights of law enforcement
to possess the necessary weaponry
to combat crime in our state. So if
someone tells you that Barbara
Roberts will take your guns away
that is simply not true.
What Barbara Roberts does
believe and support is a fifteen-day
waiting period for anyone who
wishes to purchase a new weapon.
This allows local law enforcement
officials to make sure that the pur
chaser of the gun is not a person with
a history of violent crime or mental
health problems. This is the current

law and is nothing new. Secondly,
Barbara Roberts supports the right
of sportsmen and legitimate col
lected to own fire arms. Barbara
Roberts does oppose the sale of
“ assault rifles’’ as weapons of war
and feels that the average sportsman
has little use for such weapons
Barbara Roberts wants secure
communities where our children are
safe on the playgrounds and where
our law enforcement officers don’t
face criminals with the weaponry of
global warfare. Barbara Roberts is
a common-sense politician who
believes in personal liberty and will
work to protect individual rights, in
cluding the right to bear arms. So if
you’re a sportsman like my family,

ballot for Barbara Roberts for gover

For Willow Creek Park District tax base Write in Pat Wright
To the Editor:
The Morrow County Tourism
Committee supports the tax base for
the Willow Creek Park District.
They are asking for $41,000 which
amounts to less than $12 tax on a
$50,000 home.
The Willow Creek Park District
has accomplished quite a bit since it
was formed over three years ago. It
is dedicated to developing facilities

for residents as well as for tourists,
and will continue to do so if funded.
It attracts grant money far in excess
of any tax money it receives, and
spends the money locally on con

voting in favor of this tax base.

To the Mayor and citizens of
Heppner,
We were among the 1850 cyclists
who participated in Cycle Oregon in
September, and we want you to
know that we very much enjoyed our
stopover in Heppner. It was wonder
ful to ride into town after a long, hot
day of biking and find a warm
welcome and a good dinner.
We especially enjoyed our tour of
your historic courthouse, and our
pleasant walk around the town after
the heat of the day was over.
We could see that Heppner is full
of warm, friendly people. Everyone
was very nice and they went out of
their way to be helpful.
This was our first real bike tour
and you certainly helped it to be full
of happy memories. It was our first
visit to Heppner, too, and we hope
to return soon.

I was very pleased to learn that Pat
Wright has consented to be a write
in candidate for Morrow County
Commissioner.
Pat is a person who has served the
public as a nurse at Pioneer
Memorial Hospital, a county school
board member and as Morrow
County Health nurse for the last 16
years. As a health nurse she has been
a proven administrator and has serv
ed all the citizens of Morrow Coun
ty, particularly senior citizens and
school children from the whole
county.
As a ranch-raised native of Mor
row County, she is familiar with the
needs of the whole county-showing
no favoritism.
Pat also is the first candidate ever
to have expertise in the health and
social needs of our people.
Pat is conservative with public
funds and insists on getting full value
for money spent. I think that it is
time to get a commissioner who is
aware of the social and health needs
of this rural county as well as the
other administrative duties of the
county commissioner.

For Lonsdale
To the Editor:
I would like to urge Oregonians to
help clean up the mess in
Washington, D C. by voting for
Harry Lonsdale. By unseating a tired
and complacent Hatfield, a little
more control and involvement by all
citizens can be achieved. Oregon is
not for sale.
With Harry’s election, special in
terests, PAC’s and Fortune 500 cor
porations will own one less senator.
If you are tired of $57 billion S&L
bailouts, growing deficits and debts
for your childrens grandchildren,
vote to free Oregon from these
greedy amoral corporations and their
PACs.
Besides your vote you can donate
$50 per voter or $100 per couple that
may be deducted from your Oregon
Income Tax, free. It is a painless
way to be patriotic. America has
never needed you more. Be sure to
vote, be involved, contribute your
time, money, ideas, yourself.
Harry Lonsdale believes in the
voters of Oregon.

Against Measure 5
Roberts has tough plan on crime
To the Editor:
As a public official and former law
enforcement officer, I know the toll
crime takes on our communities, our
families and our schools. Barbara
Roberts has a tough plan for com
batting crime and drugs in Oregon.
Ms. Roberts plan addresses the
causes of the problems, not just its
symptoms. Barbara Roberts supports
a strong Community Corrections
program as well as tougher sentenc
ing for those who repeatedly com
mit crimes. She knows that criminals
must be held accountable and that
this takes a community-based effort.
Barbara Roberts supports strong
parole and probation programs and
ensures that those individuals
To the Editor:
I am writing to urge everyone to

governor. I think Dave’s track
record as attorney general and as a
legislator give him more of the type
of experience which our next gover

I'm also concerned that Barbara
Roberts will be more of a ’’tax and
spend’’ liberal than this state’s
economy can stand as we head into
sentenced are held accountable in
side our prisons and out.
Prison space is still needed so Bar
bara Roberts supports prison con
struction, but feels that this is just
one leg of a truly effective criminal
justice system. Increased funding for
crime prevention through communi
ty corrections (parole and probation)
is the long-term key to solving the
crime problem in Oregon. We have
to ensure that the current large
number of repeat offenders are
drastically reduced ad this can only
occur through holding the paroled
and probation offender accountable.
Umatilla County has a model pro
gram for electronic house arrest,
which should be encouraged
throughout the state. Barbara
Roberts will offer leadership and
support for these type of innovative
and cost-effective programs.
Barbara Roberts knows that solv
ing the Oregon crime problem will
require everyone’s help, but most of
all she knows what it is like to be at
the local level. That is why on
November 6, Barbara Roberts will
have my vote for our next governor.

To the Editor:
If you knew that ballot measure #5

this measure?
If you knew that Property Tax

an estimated $2.9 billion from the
funds available to pay for higher

would you favor or oppose this
measure?
If you knew that the Property Tax

If you knew that police, and fire

If you knew that the Property Tax

If you knew that classes of proper
