St. Patrick’s
Senior Center
Bulletin Board
The Heppner Booster Club will
meet Tuesday Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at
Ployhar Insurance office on Main St.
Topic of discussion will be Reno
Night, the club’s annual fundraiser.

Great news: Our new senior center bus is due to be delivered
Mon
day, Sept. 24, according to Stan Murray, owner of Murray Modifications
of Seattle, Wa., who has the contract for assembling the bus we ordered.
We are planning a little welcoming party when it arrives here. We can pile
in and take a mini-trip around town to try it out, maybe even have
refreshments. We’ll let everyone know the approximate hour as soon as
we know. For two years we have looked forward to this day.
A salute to the Senior Center volunteer receptionists who are in our of
fice from 9 to 5 week days and monitor after-hour calls received on our
telephone answering device. These volunteers have chosen to welcome
visitors, answer questions, answer the phone and make calls referring
messages to our Senior services specialist Merri Reamer and to appropriate
committee chairmen of the Sr. Center Board. They take requests for RSVP
and the Dollaride car, call shut-ins to “ see how you’re doing today,” keep
a written log of visitors, calls and events each day, assist with decorating
both bulletin boards and the rooms, do typing and filing and other things
as need arises. Heppner can be proud to have the only full-time office
volunteer staff of the senior centers in our area. The following people merit
a pat on the back: Rachel Harnett (general chairman), Irene Shroeder,
Shirley Haugen, Velma Wight, Barbara Struthers, Mema Toll, Darlene Ar
rington, Eleanor Gonty, Laura Searle, Florence Holt and Helen Dyer.
Next week: Monday the new bus arrives. At 1 p.m. quilters begin instruc
tions on how to cut and assemble a quilt. This is to be for individuals who
choose to make a block , a wall hanging, pillow or a whole quilt for
themselves, using the construction techniques provided by the class.
Tuesday and Thursday at 10 a m. the exercise group is invited to “ Swing
into Shape.’’
Wednesday friends from the Nazarene and Seventh Day Adventist chur
ches will be assisting in serving the monthly birthday dinner of lasagna,
broccoli, tossed salad, French bread, chilled pears and cookies. The Nutri
tion Site Committee announces that the new suggested donation will be $1.75
for those over 60 and $2.25 for those under. The price rise is because
meat will no longer be available through AAA commodities.
At 1 p.m. a special meeting of the Activities Committee will be held,
in the office.
