Bindery David and April Sykes, Publishers Letters to the Editor Terminally ill child seeks Guiness record To the Editor: On July 24, 1990 our family was shocked with the news of the cruel, senseless murder of George and Charmatne (Meyers). Too often we think these things only happen to other people. Now this horrible act has taken two loving individuals who were parents and grandparents to us. We must realize that this dreadful crime can happen to any of us at any time. We are all the victims of these cold-blooded murderers because they take the lives of loved ones that can never be replaced. We ask that you help us to not let their needless deaths be for nothing. Join with us by insisting on tougher laws and swift and sure justice for those who commit such atrocities. Each and everyone of you are hard working people. Do you want your tax dollars spent to house, clothe and feed people like those who murdered our parents? We ask you to help us work to ensure that our parents attackers and other murderers are punished for their crimes. We realize this is a difficult issue to think about unless it has affected your own personal lives. Yet, we ask you for a moment to consider how you would feel if someone you love was taken from you for no reason. It is hard to imagine the pain and grief. Please help us and future victims of such crimes by writing to those in our local and state government who are in the decision-making posi tions. Better legislation is needed which will make penalties and sentences tougher for criminals. Please call or write the following people whose address is: State C apitol, Salem , Oregon 97310-Governor Neil Goldschmidt, phone 378-3111; Senate President John Kitzhaber phone 378-8173; Senate Minority Leader John Bren- neman, phone 378-8176; House Speaker Vera Katz, phone 378-8977; House Minority Leader Larry Campbell, phone 378-8772; Joint Interim Judiciary Committee, phone 378-5962; Attorney General Dave Frohnmayer, 100 Justice Building, Salem Oregon 97310, phone 378-6002.
