By Claudia Hughes. Chamber Manager
So many things are happening, it’s
“ bits and pieces” time again. As a
matter of fact, until Cycle Oregon III
comes and goes, many of those
working on this major undertaking
may feel their entire brain is in bits
and pieces. Gilcrest referred to it as
Psycho Oregon, but promised us that
when it was all over and done, it
would be well worth it.
* Rumor has it that there is going
to be an all out Heppner clean-up on
August 11.. .just in time to get
everything spiffed up for our Mor
row County Fair, “ Blue Jeans &
Country Scenes. ” Mark your calen
dars, so one and all can pitch in. We
want those 2,000 cyclists, as well as
fairgoers to be impressed by our
community pride.
* Special thanks to Chamber
member Kate’s Pizza for use of a
VCR whenever a video is on the
noon Chamber agenda and for her
staffs assistance in serving the Cy
cle Oregon delegation a sample din
ner when they passed through Hepp
ner. Sometimes we forget to give
recognition to our members for their
many volunteer efforts. Believe me,
Heppner would not be the same
without volunteers.

a booth representative of our coun
ty 250 miles away, man it, and keep
the produce fresh. The committee is
looking for warm enthusiastic bodies
to man the booth and spread our
Morrow County spirit.
* July 14 - 21 I will be in Palo
Alto, California, attending “ Institute
for Chamber Management.” I’m
grateful for the scholarship for tui
tion and books and for our
chamber’s support. Requirements
were to read four books sent to me,
submit a test by July 2, and attend
all classes full time. I’m committed.

contest to be
held Nov. 12
By Anne Morter
Plans are being made for the an
nual “ Make It Yourself With Wool
Contest” says new area director,
Maureen Krebs of Cecil. This year's
contest will be held on Monday.
November 12, in lone at the United
Church of Christ. This day. a legal
holiday, was chosen in an effort to
avoid conflicts with sporting events.
The contest is open to boys and
girls, ages eight and older, and in
cludes a classification for senior
sewers, ages 21 and older. Winners
from this area, which includes Mor
row, Gilliam. Wheeler and Umatilla
counties, will advance to the state
competition to be held in Portland in
late December.
Mrs. Krebs encourages all 4-H
members to “ think wool” for their
fair garments this year. Garments
must be at least 60 percent wool to
qualify for the “ Make It Yourself
With Wool” competition. More
details will be released as they
