lone Fourth of July celebration a success
B y A n n e M o rte r
The lone Fourth of July Celebra
tion was deemed another success by
organizers. The weather cooperated
nicely bringing in large crowds from
out of town as well as many local
people. Approximately 250 hungry
folks were fed at the chicken
barbecue and a large crowd turned
out for the fireworks display held at
the football field.
Highlighting the fireworks was a
small brush fire on the hillside
behind the field. Due to a quick
response by the fire department and
the lack of wind, it was quickly
extinguished.
The parade attracted more out of
town floats this year including
several from Hermiston. Several
new events such as the Lions Club
bingo and the softball tournament
also brought in a good share of par
ticipants. Overall, it was a busy and
pleasant Fourth of July in lone and
the organizing committee felt it turn
ed out very well.
