By Beth Stephens
Oregon State Federation Garden
Clubs Dist. 10 recently presented the
1990 Conservation Award plaque to
Stokes Landing Seniors, who have
a recycling program.
A recycling program has been in
operation since 1973 at Irrigon.
Many seniors have worked on col
lecting cardboard, tin, glass and
aluminum. Cardboard boxes are flat
tened, newspapers are tied in
bundles, tin cans are washed and
flattened and glass is sorted and
crushed.
Chester Wilson says “ 25 *4 tons of
recycling material went through our
hands during 1989.“
Stokes Landing Senior Center
receives a steady monthly income for
this project.
