East team splits two game series
B y A n n e M orte r
Coach Dana" Heideman and his
legion of Prep A/B All Stars split
their two game series against the
West All Stars last weekend in
McMinnville and Salem, winning
Friday night at Linfield College and
losing Saturday night at Chemeketa
Community College.
On Friday, the East team held off
a late game rally by the West to
score a 58-55 win. Holding an
11 -point lead with four minutes to
go, the East saw that lead dwindle
to two points. Dani Baker of North
Douglas sunk a key free throw with
nine seconds left to preserve the win.
The Saturday game was another
close one but the East came up on
the short end of the score, 59-56.
Janene Webster of lmbler was the
leading scorer for the East team with
13 points. Tina Johnson of Scio was
named Most Valuable Player of the
series.

perienced tracking instructors, in

groups of students. Denton said that
tracking involved measurement of
footprints and stride and details such
as crushed or crumpled grass, foot
impressions, broken twigs and
disturbed rocks. She said the first
night of searching her group was
able to progress only about fifty
yards in around 2 lh hours, because
of the difficulties encountered in
night searches. The time involved in
reaching goal points also depended
on group members experience in
tracking.
“ We had three very good
strenuous days of tracking.” said
Denton. “ It was a very rewarding
and very worthwhile experience.”
