The evening started with the open

the Riverside Choir. The choir sang
as the banquet was being served by
the Boardman Tillicum Club.
After the meal, members and
guests listened to the annual report,
given by the chapter reporter, Con

numerous accomplishments that
Riverside has achieved in the last
year, from livestock judging to state

When divorce occurs, it’s time for
a careful assessment of a couple’s
financial assets and liabilities as well
as making careful plans for the

Chamber Chatter
By Claudia Hughes. Chamber Manager
* Our rolling hills of Heppner will
be green after all. The rain not only
fell softly on our fields, but on our
gardens, our lawns, our picnics, and
everything else. No complaints. It
will also cause the flowers in the
planters on Main Street to thrive.
Heppner Garden Club members put
in many hours to make Heppner look
nice for visitors and townspeople
alike. They’re appreciated.
* Chamber board members will be
approaching you to become a Hepp
ner Chamber member. For pennies
a day, you can be a part of an
organization composed of businesses
and people from all walks of life
working together to make Heppner
a great place in which to live and
work. Your membership will help
you become an active part of what
happens in Heppner. Say yes to an
investment in Heppner's future.
* Want to meet people from all
over the United States, enjoy their
company for a few hours, make
some lasting friendships, and learn
what possesses someone to spend
their vacation on a bicycle? Then
sing up to be part of the September
9 Cycle III Homestay program. Just
contact Judie at the T.V./Chamber
office to offer a bed, camper, R.V.,
cot, or carpet space. These people
will be having their meals elsewhere,
so bed space is all they need. If you
don’t have space, then there will be
other ways to participate. Come for
lunch at Chamber June 12 to learn
more.

have a standing invitation to visit.
We welcome teachers who actually

Thought for the week: “ A hun
dred years from now it will not mat
ter what kind of car we drove or the
sort of house we lived in, but the
world may be different because we
were important in the life of a
child."
"nam e” . Cory talked not only about
FFA, but added a little physics into
his persuasion.
Mark Evans, freshman, received
the Star Greenhand Award for his
outstanding accomplishments as a
first year member. Joy Heiberg was
awarded the Star Chapter Farmer
plaque for her long-time involve
ment in FFA. Honorary members
inducted were Kenn Evans and Scott
Carlson for their dedication as chairs
on the advisory board.
Other members receiving awards
were: Rob Key, ag mechanics and
sales and service; Aaron Tolar,
placement in production agriculture;
James Harley, ag electrification;
Patricia Wetzel, beginning public
speaking; Joy Hellberg, star chapter

Stan Timmermann, Pendleton,
member of the Oregon Wheat Com
mission, has been chosen to become
an officer in the U.S. Wheat
Associates. That action was taken at
the Commission’s meeting on May
9 in The Dalles.
U.S. Wheat Associates is an inter
national wheat marketing organiza
tion headquartered in Washington,
D.C. of which Oregon is a member.
Officers in the organization are
chosen on a rotating basis and serve
a total of four years. Timmermann
will begin his service in 1991 and
serve as chairman in 1993.
" I am pleased and proud to be
chosen for this important leadership
p o sitio n ," Tim m erm ann said.
“ Oregon has played an important
part in the development of U.S.
Wheat Associates as well as in
Western Wheat Associates before it
was merged with Great Plains Wheat
in 1980 to become U.S. Wheat. I in
tend to use this position to bolster
sales of American wheat overseas,"
he added.
In other action, the commission:
-heard a report from Tony Flagg,
manager of Pendleton Flour Mills,
on their efforts at developing and
utilizing a semi-hard white wheat to
be grown in Umatilla County. This
new wheat, developed by Oregon
State University, will be grown
under contract in the county in about
two years. Flour from the wheat will
be used by Pendleton Flour Mills in
the new mixing plant, which is now
under construction;
-continued discussions on the
fiscal year 1990-91 commission
budget. A hearing on the budget will
be held in June at which time a final
version will be adopted;
