Obituaries
Harlan McCurdy
The funeral for Harlan D. McCur
dy Jr. was April 16 at the Hope
Lutheran Church in Heppner Con
cluding service and burial followed
at the Heppner Masonic Cemetery.
Mr. McCurdy, 71, of Heppner,
died Thursday, Apnl 12, 1990 at his
home.
He was bom Sept. 6, 1918 in lone
to Harlan and Della Davidson
McCurdy. He grew up in lone and
attended schools in lone, graduating
from lone High School.
He graduated from Pacific
University at Forest Grove in 1940.
He served with the U.S. Army
during World War II.
On Nov. 2, 1943, he married
Donna Nelson at San Diego, Calif.
After his military service, he
returned to Morrow County and
began working for Morrow County
Grain Growers.
In 1949-50, he managed the
Marshall-Wells store at Ukiah, then
returned to Morrow County and
became manager of Morrow Coun
ty Grain Growers, a position he held
until 1969. From 1969-73 he was
grain buyer for North Pacific Grain
Growers in Portland. The next 10
years he was manager of Pomeroy
Grain Growers at Pomeroy, Wash.,
retiring in October 1983 and retur
ning to Heppner.
He was a 50-year member and
past exalted ruler of Heppner Elks
Lodge 358 and was a district deputy.
Survivors include his wife, at the
home; daughters, Diane. (Mrs.
Bruce) Moyer of Lolo, Mont.,
Karen (Mrs. Doug) Dubuque of
Heppner and Janet (Mrs. John) Cur-
rin of Pendleton; his mother Della
McCurdy of Heppner; sister Maxine
(Mrs. Len) Gilman of Dulzura.
Calif, and five grandchildren.

Myma E. Johnson
A memorial service for Myma E.
Johnson was held at the United
Church of Christ in lone Wednes
day. Burial will be at Jerseyville, 111.
Mrs. Johnson, 51, of lone, died
Thursday, April 12, 1990, at St.
Mary Medical Center in Walla
Walla as the result of injuries sus
tained in a motor vehicle/train acci
dent on April 6.
She was bom at Alton, 111., on
Jan. 5, 1939 to Earle and Leona
Weeks DeUel.
She was employed at Lamb-
Weston in Boardman and has been
a resident of the lone area for near
ly 10 years.
Survivors include a son, Marvin,
of Centralia, Wash.; daughters, Eva
Gardner of Brighton, 111., Teresa
Wadkins of Omak, Wash., Sharon
Hewitt of Fildon, 111., Virginia
Johnson of Midland, Texas; and
Janice Barton of Okanogan, Wash.;
her parents at Jerseyville, 111.;
brother Edwin DeUel of Jerseyville;
sisters, Una Dunsing of Jerseyville
and Ella Whitehead of Delhi, 111.,
and 15 grandchildren.

Margaret I. Logan
Margaret I. Logan, a long time
Arlington resident, died at the
Amber Valley Care Center in
Pendleton Saturday, April 14, 1990
at the age of 79.
She was the oldest daughter of
four children bom to Lloyd and Lula
Miller. She wasbom Dec 15, 1910
in Bellefourch, S D.
On Sept. 29, 1942, she married
Richard Logan in Superior, Mont,
after World War II the couple and
their five children built a home in
ed to Imgon to investigate a report
of a missing child. Child was located
and no further action was taken;
Morrow County deputy received
a report of a vehicle in the ditch in
Irrigon. There were no injuries;
Morrow County Sheriffs office
dispatched the Heppner ambulance
to the Elementary school for a stu
dent with unknown injuries. Student
was transported to Pioneer Memorial
Hospital;
Morrow County deputy received
a report of suspicious circumstances
at the east bound rest area in Board-
man. Call was unfounded;
Morrow County Sheriffs office
dispatched the Boardman fire depart
ment to Paul Smith Road for a power
pole on fire;
Morrow County deputy respond
ed to Heppner for a report of a possi
ble intoxicated individual with a
weapon. Citation was issued to
Ronald Schwarz, 29, for Unlawful
Possession of a Firearm;
Morrow County deputy received
a report of a possible intoxicated
driver. Driver was unable to be
located.
April 14: Morrow County deputy
responded to the Boardman area for
a report of a theft of a manure
spreader taken from Homer Pitchart.
Approximate vlaue is $750. In
vestigation is continuing.
Morrow County deputy respond
ed to the Irrigon area for a
neighborhood disturbance. Distur
bance was unable to be located upon
deputies arrival;
Morrow County deputy respond
ed to the Irrigon area to check out
a neighborhood disturbance. Deputy
was unable to locate anything.
During the weeks of March 12 to
April 15, Morrow County Sheriffs
office assisted nine disabled
motorists.
April 15: Morrow County deputy
responded to the Wilson Road area
in Boardman to investigate a report
of an unknown person on private
property;
Morrow County Sheriffs office
dispatched the Boardman ambulance
to a one vehicle accident on 1-84,
westbound, m ilepost 149. A
transport was made to Good
Shepherd Hospital with unknown
injuries;
Morrow County deputy respond
ed to Irrigon area to investigate a
complaint of a family disturbance.
No further action was taken as pro
blem was resolved;
Morrow County deputy began an
investigation in the Hardman area of
vandalism. Case is continuing.
Arlington.
For several years Mrs. Logan was
actively involved in the Veterans of
Foreign Wars, the American Legion
and Eastern Star. She served for
three years on the budget committee
of the Eastern Star grand chapter.
She also served her community
working as a member of the election
board in the Arlington precinct for
many years.
Survivors include her husband and
five children; a son, Ray, of
Anaheim, Calif.; daughters Lola
Fish of Sun Valley, Nev.; Darlene
Smythe of Arlington; Dorothy
Zastrow of Brookings and Lois
Masters of Hermiston; 22 grand
children;
and
18
great
grandchildren.
Two brothers preceded her in
death.
Funeral services were Wednesday
at the Masonic Hall in Arlington.
Burial will be vault interment at Arl
ington Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be
made to the Shriners Hospital for
Crippled Children. Bums Mortuary,
Hermiston, was in charge of
arrangements.

The Sheriffs office at the cour
thouse in Heppner reports dispat
ching the following business during
the past week:
April 9: Morrow County deputy
responded to Irrigon regarding a dog
problem, investigation is continuing;
Morrow County deputy respond
ed to lone to begin an investigation
of vandalism. Investigation is
continuing;
Morrow County deputy began in
vestigation of stolen 20 foot 5th
wheel flatbed trailer belonging to
Columbia Livestock. Boardman.
Value of the trailer is $4,500;
Morrow County deputy began in
vestigation of custody problems. In
vestigation is continuing;
Morrow County deputy began in
vestigation of a neighborhood pro
blem in the Irrigon area. Investiga
tion is continuing.
April 10: Morrow County deputy
responded to an animal problem in
the Irrigon area;
Morrow County deputy respond
ed to Boardman area on a report of
a possible Driving Under the In
fluence of Intoxicants. Deputy was
unable to locate report.
April 11: M orrow County
S heriffs office dispatched the
Boardman fire department to a field
fire behind the Outback apartments;
Morrow County deputy respond
ed to investigate a theft report at the
Mike Gunderson residence on
Washington in Irrigon. Investigation
is continuing;
Morrow County deputy respond
ed to the Irrigon area for a report of
a stolen bike. Property was return
ed to its owner;
Morrow County deputy respond
ed to the Boardman area for a possi
ble prow ler call. Call was
unfounded.
April 12: M orrow County
Sheriffs office responded to Irrigon
to begin an investigation of a
business burglary. Investigation is
continuing;
Morrow County Sheriff s office
dispatched the Heppner fire depart
ment to a residential fire on Hinton
Creek;
Morrow County Sheriff s office
responded to the Bombing Range
area to attempt to locate a possible
drunk driver. Call was unfounded;
Morrow County deputy re< pond-
ed to the Irrigon area for a family
disturbance;
Morrow County deputy respond
ed to the Irrigon Manna for a report
of a sunken tugboat. Coast Guard
was notified.
April 13: Morrow County deputy
responded to the Irrigon area to in
vestigate a theft complaint. The city
of Irrigon was the victim;

Trees again will
be available from
Ranger District
The procedure for obtaining tree
seedlings from the Heppner Ranger
District is similar to last year. Prior
to April 21, a list of people and the
number of trees that they would like
to have has been maintained. The list
will be kept at the front desk by
Tonya Bowers, inform ation
receptionist.
On April 21, the district will have
available trees to provide five free
trees per family and trees for sale in
25 tree bundles at $5 per bundle. Up
to 500 trees may be purchased per
family. There will be a variety of
species available, including:
ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, and
others.
Those who wish to purchase over
500 trees of a particular species will
need to order them directly from the
Forest Service nursery. The recep
tionist at the Heppner Ranger
District office can provide interested
parties with the nursery's phone
number. For further information,
contact the Heppner Ranger District

Senior Center, according to Kevin
Hale, Pendleton Electric owner.
The Gazette-Times had received
incorrect information as to the
alarm's installation.
The alarm had been malfunction
ing and caused false alarms at the
center on March 30, March 31 and
April 2.

Notice is hereby given that on
May 1, 1990, the Boad of Equaliza
tion of the County of Morrow,
Oregon, will meet at the County
Courthouse in Heppner, Oregon, to:
— Correct all errors in valuation,
description, or qualities of land, lots
or other property assessed by the
Assessor.
— Hear petitions to excuse per
sonal and real property late filing
fees.
Petitions to excuse the liability for
late filing penalties must be filed
with the board no later than May 31,
1990.
The assessed valuation of all pro
perties assessed by the county
assessor's office in Morrow Coun
ty, as entered on the assessment roll
for January 1, 1990, is 100 percent
of the true cash (market) value of
such property.
It shall be the duty of the persons
interested to appear at the time and
place appointed. Petitions for adjust
ment of value must be filed with the
board not later than May 31, 1990,
except when the filing of the petition
at a different time is permitted under
ORS 309.035, 309.090 or 309.103.

Morrow County will be accepting
bids on a comprehensive develop
ment plan for the Morrow County
Fair Grounds and athletic fields. In
cluded, but not limited to, will be the
possible location of future buildings,
roads, restrooms, concession stands,
parking and amusements associated
with fair activities.
In addition, portions fo the fair
grounds are dedicated to athletic
events such as football, baseball,
track and field, and rodeo activities.
Reconfiguration of these existing
areas will be necessary along with
the supporting utilities. The
Development Plan will include five
construction phases along with
estimated cost for each phase.
