The lone JV boys team suffered
setbacks at the hands of Sherman
County and Condon last week Sher
man County visited lone on Thurs
day. January 25. and Condon played
the early game Saturday on the
C ards' home court
Sherman County rattled the Car
dinals with a press for most of the
game and spread (heir scoring bet­
ween eleven players to hand lone a

than in their last match up but had
trouble getting their shots to fall and
with getting the ball down court
Sherman County struck early,
scoring 22 points to the C ard's two

Hcppner f reshmen team He led the
team in points scored I 59, and points
per game 11 4 Pete Pearson led the
team in freethrow percentage with
61 percent

Still riding high from the upset
over Culver, the Cardinals met a
quick Sherman County team on
Saturday night The Huskies had
played Condon, the state’s lo p
ranked team, into overtime the
previous night before succumbing
The game was close through n»>st of
the contest until Sherman County
turned up the defensive pressure and
got away from the Cardinals fhe
final score was 61-47.
The first quarter was squeaky tight
with the Huskies eekmg out a one
p u n t advantage 13 12. The game
stayed close until late in the second
quarter when Sherman County
p>wcred up their press and forced
the Cardinals to turn the ball over

H eppner M ustangs faced the
W'ahtonka Fugle* in their last home
game Ihe Mustangs wasied little
time taking a 22 to 14 first quarter
lead Heppner then coasted for the
w in 75 to 61
Russell Britt lead the Mustangs
with 33 punts, including 18 punts
from the 3 punt range He also pull
ed down eight rebounds and dished
oul seven assists Slater Mitchell
added 15 punts and nine rebounds
Ihe Mustang* ended the season 12
and 2 in CBC plav and 15 and 3
overall The Mustang* have the top
seat in the district tournament and
will face the Wasco Co Redsides
this Friday at the Pendleton Armory

StiNikev who scored 11 punts in the
second quarter took a 70 16 lead in
to the locker room at the hall

to high gear in the third quarter as

could only manage three punt* as
the Fillies played tough defense Jen­
nifer Currin scored It) punts in the
quarter. Heppner outscored the

traveled to Umatilla to face the Vik
ings The game decided who would
hold the top seat at the district
tournament
The Mustangs had control almost
the entire game and pulled out the
close win Umatilla cut the Mustang
lead to one p u n t with 3 30 left to
play in the game, but then slowed it
down and put the game out of reach
The final score was Heppner 69 and
Umatilla 64
The Mustangs were lead by the hot
hand o f Russell Britt who racked up
Mustangs coast to win
