Lady Cards used excellent pressure
defense and improved hall handling
to chalk up the win

in the first quarter but lone countered
with 11 points in the second quarter
while holding the Pirates to just
three The score at halftime was 13-9
in favor of lone The Cards came out
smoking in the third quarter, leading

a 30-23 rcbouding edge over the
taller Pirates with Crystal Minster as
the leader, pulling down eight Rene
Vanlrcrsum, a senior cschangc stu­
dent from Holland, grabbed an ad
ditional sis Minster also led in
assists with an outstanding total of
fifteen Ihc l-ady Cards shot a
respectable 41 percent from the floor
and an identical 41 percent from the
line
Couch Toni Bedortha was jubilant,
stating that the girls finally got a win
to show for their hustle and ag
grcssivcncss He said the Cards ex
ccuted their full-court press very
well, although they were unable to
capitalize on all the steals He credits
Crystal Minster for an excellent
game, leading in points, rebounds
and steals He also said Kristine
Hedortha and Rene VanLumscer hud
good efforts Before this season

Ihe Fillies, once again got off to
a slow start, as they only scored sis
points in the first quarter, but were
still tied with Wasco Co at the end
of the quarter b b Heppncr cxplod
ed in the second period for 17 points
and held the Redsides to a single
tree throw, and had a 23 7 lead at
the end of one half of play
The Redsides left for dead, came
to life in the third period as they
outscored the Fillies, 124. and trail
cd only 27 |9 going into the final
(xcrnid Heppncr stopped the Rcdside
comeback in the fourth quarter,
outscoring Wasco Co 11-10 and
went on to their 10th league victory
Kim Stookey scored 15 points to
lead the Fillies Jennifer Currin
